What does the lottery cost per week, if it is the same as us then it is £1. So this lottery is taking on 600 new people a week? I smell some tax dodging going on here.'"
Here we go again
The rise in attendances will include all punters, however, the club never give away free tickets (or charge peanuts for season tickets like other clubs).
Regarding the lottery, we aren't taking on 600 new people a week, we have taken on 600 in the last 8 weeks or so, which equates to £30K a year. People are joining all the time which will increase still further. I think there are 5,000 - 6,000 lottery shareholders, each paying £1 a week.
The figures I mentioned were announced by Des and the BOD at a fundraising meeting 2 weeks ago.
I think you Fax (and Widnes) fans are the gullable ones. Des this, Des that, Rooney on this, Catic on that. All complete cobblers.
Fax should have a good squad next season and so will we. Should be another great season.
Get used to it. We're here to stay (until 2012 anyway)

On an unrelated note; does prize money won incur income tax?
And on another unrelated note, if a player wins a club lottery does it count against the cap?

Barrow do not provide free tickets for games other than complimentary tickets for sponsors and players. They also do not provide major concessions other than the standard discounts for pensioners, children and the Junior Raiders club. The only others are that the local amateur clubs are entitled to tickets at a tenner each, tho I think the clubs must buy these prior to selling on to their players.
The Barrow Rugby lottery is the second largest lottery in the country and was the largest up until the introduction of the National Lottery. The statement was that it has recently increased by 600 members and more are joining each week, not 600 per week. I wish it was 600 per week tho.
I am reasonably comfortable with the operating figures for last year as I would suggest that they are pretty good for the Championship in the current economic climate. I would also expect that the expenditure this year is within the clubs financial limits as the board are very proud of their record of having never been in administration or receivership and learned their lesson in the 80's when it was a close run thing whether the club would survive the attentions of Her Majesties Revenue Service. I believe Wakey are suffering their not so subtle probings at the moment!
As one of you posted, what are Fax's accounts like for that period? Fairly similar I would have thought. At least it aint a million loss like Widnes.

| Quote Tony Fax="Tony Fax"You said it, tec ... in Des's pocket. And you must remember that Des has LENT Barrow money, not GIVEN it. It's like one of them pre-marrital agreements between husband and wife, if things go tats up I want my money back, not exactly a marriage made in heaven, eh?
So ... when Barrow don't retain their trophy in a year or 2's time and you get some pist up dockers prodding Des in the chest wanting to know why, let's hope for your sakes Old Des don't take his bat 'n' ball home.'"
Talk about changing your tune.
First we get all the accusations that Des bankrolls the entire club and if he walked we'd all be doomed, and then when you 'reveal' that he has lent the club money we're still doomed.
Again, you speak from a real position of ignorance.
The fact is that by the start of the 2010 season the increase in lottery stakeholders will cover the £80K we 'owe' Des.
Let's look at which Championship clubs have been financially impotent in the last few years ...
Widnes
Gateshead
Oldham
Doncaster (x2)
Rochdale
oh and Fax
On top of those, several other clubs including Haven, Workington, Blackpool and others have, or still are, sailing very close to the wind financially.
Having a managed debt and overdraft is completely normal in business. Note the word MANAGED.

What are you talking about ?????
The Barrow RL lottery has been running for close to 30 years and has kept the club afloat for many years.
Still, why should the facts spoil a good conspiracy

| this is what tonyfax found out & posted on here start of Oct.
Quote Tony Fax="Tony Fax"Seeing that the accounts are available for public inspection I cannot see any reason why they cannot be discussed on here, but please correct me if I'm not allowed to do so.
The accounts for the year ended 30 November 2008 have recently been filed, and because the company is small, only abbrieviated accounts showing the balance sheet, and excluding the profit & loss account, need be filed. But you can tell if the company has made or lost money by comparing the profit & loss reserves with the previous year.
In the case of Halifax RL ... the P & L reserves are EXACTLY the same as last year, obviously meaning the company broke even for the year ended 2008. "EXACTLY"????!!! you ask. Yes, EXACTLY. So we didn't lose money for the last reported year ... that's all we need to know
Anyway .... just to confirm that Widnes lost £986,380 for the year ended November 2008 as discussed on here several weeks ago, and that does NOT include the £912k spent on intangible & tangible assets as some folk seemed to believe, but the loss DOES include just over £200k depreciation on these assets.
And in November 2008 we were richer than Widnes

To post figures exactly the same , and to suggest the club broke exactly even without somebody putting money in to balance the figures up is incredible , if you believe that you also believe in the tooth fairy and that a man in a red suit delivers those pressies on Xmas morning
The figures posted for Barrow are fairly good reading if correct
