Of course it is just a way of stating person. When I was much younger I used to think it referred to the actual personality of an individual and often wondered why some won it on that basis





The whole thing is flawed anyway when relying on the public vote....some very deserving individuals (not least our Kevin) have simply no chance of winning it because the majority of the great British voting public

are truly ignorant of all the facts (whatever they might be voting for).

The winner will be the most high profile; most in the news at the time of voting.

When you think of some of the other winners of public votes i have to agree it's probably the worst way to select anything.

In other words democracy sucks?

Unfortunately it does....somebody once said to me people should have to pass an IQ/and or knowledge of basic facts test first before they are allowed to vote. That I think would leave about 2% of the population in a position to do so.

..the forthcoming vote on EU membership is a nightmare fulfilled. Instead of a referendum we should all just ask Murdoch what he wants: it will save a lot of wasted time and effort.



In all seriousness my ex father in law always advocated we should all look no further than Singapore for the ideal model of government rule - i.e. benevolent dictatorship. Saves all this lottery of placing important decisions in the hands of bigots, buffoons and sheep.

I have to say I have a great deal of sympathy with these thoughts. However, for every benevolent dictator there are 10 of a very different nature - would you always be sure of which one you were going to get?

Just the "public".

Was 5th favourite with the various bookies the other day at around 20/1, now they have him third (or joint third with Fury with some bookies) at around 10/1.



Murray and Ennis-Hill look like they'll comfortably take the top 2 spots but maybe JUST MAYBE Sinfield could land 3rd spot which would be incredible.

Is the voting open? Let's get him in the top 3 at least!

firstly, I take little interest in SPOTY, as it is an elitest propaganda event run by the BBC.



Secondly trying to rig the vote is doing exactly what a lot of posters on here are complaining about.



Thirdly, even if you discount the above arguments, what percentage of the population will be RL fans, and of them given our parochial culture of club bias, would be willing to vote for a Leeds RL player and of them what percentage will actually vote.

An "elitist propaganda event", which this year will likely devote the largest slice of its time to football and athletics - probably about as far from "elitist" sports as you can get?
