| Wheeler has all the skills to play 6 and make the position his own alongside Walsh. The trouble as we all know is his ability to string a decent run of games together. The stat that Eddie reminded us of last night told the full story, I think it was 54 appearances in seven and a half seasons at the club. I know the club must be nervous of releasing him and then not seeing his best years, but in a salary capped sport, you can't afford to carry a player for any length of time really.

| Based on ability Wheeler should play whenever fit. Always shows up well when fit. It'd be harsh to drop Lance to play Wheeler at 6 though.

| I think it's time we stuck with Lance and Walsh. We can't Keep messing about with the halves. Lance has done ok this year and been dropped to many times IMHO when other players seem untouchable.
We can't trust wheeler to be fit and IMO it's a huge problem. He can break at any point.

| If wheeler can stay fit, he's worth a spot in the centres. Percival is also injury prone, jones is of use in the pack and Turner's form is info distant. If he can prove he can stay fit and string some appearances together there (which he won't) , then, maybe talk about disrupting the haves for him.

| Lance is doing very well this season enough to keep Wheeler out of the No 6 spot. Walsh is doing fine organising the side with Lance excellent in his support play.

With Walsh doing the organising and ball playing, it gives lance more of a running game which has obviously been his main threat for years. Last two years he had to try and ball play which isn't his game

| I'm an unashamed Wheeler fan but obviously there is a big concern about injuries.
However, I'm pretty sure that the lengths of his absence are over exaggerated as when he recovers he is not an automatic choice to get back into the team, unlike some players in spite of his ability; so he his not chosen until there is an injury to someone else in a position he is suited to playing. He has sat out the last couple of games prior to Hudds whist fit.
I'm pretty sure that this is part him not making 6 as "his".
But the fact remains he has been fit to play many times but not chosen - sometimes even when we are way down on numbers which makes me think he is not one of Brown's favourite players for reasons best know to Brown. I wouldn't drop HiHo but he would be a better choice over Wilkin if Lance got injured.
It would be a tragedy to let him go and then do a Matty Smith on us.

Agree with all of this which confuses me as Brown was on record as saying he was the best no 6 at the club and god knows what it does for Wheelers confidence.

I can see it now Smith + Wheeler playing in pie land and never to get injured again.

I doubt is give wheeler another deal unless he took a Very poor contract or a performance related contract. We can't keep paying a guy to sit in the stands season after season in a salary cap sport.
I'm a big fan of wheeler but IMO enough is enough, if he goes on to be a star at another club then so be it.

I'd offer him (less than) minimum wage + decent appearance fee.
