No he was signed as a halfback - to be precise he was a specialist 6 and signed as cover for Tommy initially IIRC. Your confusion probably comes from the fact he wore the squad number 3 which was vacant due to Scott Gibbs leaving not too long before. I think Longy played his first ever pro game at 7 after he moved to Saints covering for Goulding and then took the shirt full time when Bobbie imploded.

Made up for Lee, at long last he gets a winners medal. Poor lad has had to put up with a team of gash year after year at Warrington. Many a time wire would buy a player and say "we will build a team around him" then they decide not to and usualy flog some players instead. Lee has hung on in there, made the cheshire club his own and at long last got some reward for a long career. Saints did right also, we flogged a kid for good money and at the time with bobby g in the team it was a no brainer, we then pop along to widnes to sign up lance todd himself, so we did ok by the sellign of lee... we got some money, the kid got first team RL week in week out, even if it was with some of the worst players ever to play in british rugby league.

I remember when you beat Wigan in the 4th Round of the CC in 1997, Long was playing for Wigan that day. Was he sold soon after switching to Widnes then, did he play for three clubs in the 97 season?

Wigan bought Lee Hansen for 100K plus Sean Long - not sure how many games he played for Widnes (maybe half a season??)

I don't particularly like him, but that's because he's a cocky sod when in reality he's had little to be cocky about until recently. It was typical of Briers to grab the glory with a drop goal at the end of the Cup Final on Saturday.
