This was the selection that was always going to be difficult.



BEST SCRUM HALF is the question - so my choice would be the most gifted one in that position - Robbie Paul

My heart went first to Deacon for his outstanding longevity and goal scoring, but they are not the critea in this case.



I can see where others might disagree. Deacon was a better tactical kicker, Robbie was a better try scorer etc

Whatever, we had two great scrum halves spanning 14 seasons.

I'd be amazed if anyone other than Robbie and Deacs get any votes at all

Yeah, really. I realise you're being your usual 'agent provocateur', but really....



Shaun Edwards? Whoever voted for him is voting for his form for Wigan not in his very brief and ill-fated spell with us.



Glenn Tomlinson was only ever the cover for Robbie and Henry Paul. Ben Jefferies? Well, even putting him in the poll twice won't make me vote for him!



And as for Matt Orford, don't even get me started

You may knock Ox for what he did but there is no denying that he was a great player, he and kearney orchestrated our fight back against wigan, and im sure he won us a few games. But my votes do go for Robbie and Deacs for the way they played.

Re Edwards, have a look at the highlights from the 98 season...Edwards was at the hub of all the attack and created a lot of tries.

I just don't see Robbie Paul as a scrum half at all. He was a stand-off that we played at 7 sometimes just because he was a bit of a genius.

Another question, why is ben jeffries on the list twice is that for his 2 spells with us?

Robbie is my no. 6 and that's why I haven't gone for him.



Deacon is the obvious choice, whatever his detractors say he was the central reason behind many years of success, he fitted that particular spot in those particular squads perfectly, and was right for us. And then there was the kicking.



My no. 2 is Gale as he is the classiest of the rest. I wouldn't waste a pixel on Awford on principle.

I've included players in positions which they played on a regular basis, hence why Robbie has featured at Full Back, Stand Off and Scrum Half. Jefferies has covered both positions on a frequent basis.

Deacon is the best by far, Robbie was a no 6 so didn't get my vote.
