| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"Well, you have had some major changes for this season so I imagine it will take a few matches for your new and old to gel together. I think you've had more fundamental changes than any team in the league, haven't you? We've had to change our 7 and now we've got a couple of young guys filling in for injury, but so far all of them have already played in the team thanks to our major injury problem last season. I can appreciate your concern, though, especially with such a big score against you on your opening home match (at least we couldn't see most of our humiliation last week thanks to the fog!).'"
Aye, fair comment. One new half-back is a big change, but to change your 6,7 & 9 would take alot out of any side. I will be giving them at least 5-10 matches before I join the Macca out party. I particularly back Orford to bounce back and shows he's worth the dosh he's on.
I'd like to see how Leeds would cope if they had to replace McGuire, Burrow & Diskin. Or Huddersfield with Brown Robinson and Hodgson (another key pivot).
It's not razorblade time yet

How did we manage to win 5 games in a row at the back end of last season then?

It's looking like it was a fluke to be honest.

| RE Fozzard being "offside" - he can be in front of the kicker as much as he want's can't he? He's just got to give the guy fielding the kick 10 yards before making a move to tackle him after he's touched the ball - which I think he did every time?

Nope.
Quote Bradford BadgerAny player who is in front of the kicker in general play is not
permitted to advance beyond the point of the previous playthe-
ball until the ball has gone past the off side players. This
rule delays the movement of the off side players downfield in
an attempt to encircle the ball receiver as he collects the ball.'"
It's many a year since I've seen a ref give that decision, though. Fozzard was on at least 2 occasions a country mile foul of that rule. And the first time he blatantly did it, he was first tackler too, but Bentham still ignored it.

| Fozzard ran forward at least 20 metres and then made the tackle. The player who kicked it was way downfield still. That can't be right.
I guess Bentham saw it different.

Teams would be pulled for that every week!
Hence why I thought he was ok as nobody is EVER pulled for that.

5 games in a row isn't a fluke. Especially the way we played at Hull, Huddersfield and home to Catalans who were also on good form.

I'd hold on to that five games last season because personally I really do think having changed players in crucial positions is the key to your slow start. What continues to concern me about Saints is that our run at the end of last season was 5 losses from 8 matches and we did this big score thing in the middle of our poor performances last year too, against Quins. We didn't score more than 15 in any match subsequent to that until Sunday. For you, though, I think it's the start of a new season with a lot of new key players. It's a shame, really, that you had to change so many all at once because had the team stayed as it was then you might have been seeing wins now rather than losses.
Btw, was it Wigan that lost their first five on the bounce last season but ended up in the playoffs?

That's just one view! There are other posters who challenge that view who went to the match on Sunday.
