| Quote Slugger McBatt="Slugger McBatt"So it's Kear's fault that the genius that is Sculthorpe wasn't unleashed on the pitch. Bearing in mind that we finished higher than everyone expected (5th place, in case you'd forgotten), I think it could be safely assumed that Kear's judgement was the correct one.
Not being fond of tough training does not seem to be a great quality to take to a club.
In case you have trouble spotting him, he's the bloke who ambles ten meters, and when he is in the tackle throws out wild passes, some of which work, some of which land your team in trouble. Leave it to Solomona, Scully.'"
So the coach of the side that finished 3rd doesn't have a clue?

And Nathan Brown was keen to sign him? Don't see him in Huddersfield this season. It was an arrangement that suited both, because it meant that it gave match time for Korkidas and we off-loaded Sculthorpe.
Good luck to you. McNamara may make it work. But not being fond of strict training is not a great character reference for a professional athlete.

I've heard nathan brown mention a couple of times that they were looking at extending Sculthorpe's stay, but we came in with a better offer. I'm not saying he's anything near a world beater, but he'll do a good job and he's not as bad as you are making out.
If he's that bad, why did Hudds want him over Korki?

| Opinion was fairly divided at Wakey even before he fell out with the club. I thought he was a pudding then and I still do, who always looked out of shape and, coincidentally, was constantly injured. Others thought he was a talented player who had been unlucky with injury. What is obvious is that he doesn't like training.
As for Nathan Brown, I'm sure he would have taken him if he was cheap enough. Again, not being prepared to pay his "market value" is hardly a ringing endorsement.
I may well be proved wrong and he may be a world-beater. He is a similar player in style to Solomona, except that Solomona oozed class both at Wakey and Bradford, whereas Sculthorpe is waiting to realise his promise somewhat late in his career. Mind you, paraphrasing Sculthorpe, maybe the genius that is McNamara can unlock the potential in the genius that is Sculthorpe.
Interesting quotes:
on the alcohol ban: "I had six bottles of beer on the bus"
on being a professional athlete: "it was very regimented at Wakefield like you were back at school and you couldn't enjoy yourself"
Good luck

| Some interesting comments from the Wakey lot on here, which is out of character. There's no doubt Sculthorpe has talent, he's probably more similar to old school props than anyone in SL, but no player has as many clubs as him unless there are issues. He says he only had 6 beers, I'm sure at the time he said it was only 2. When Cas signed Newlove I said he wouldn't play 10 games, I am really looking forward to how many more Macca gets out of tubs.

| Your right in saying that in his (or his dads) original defence he said he had 2 beers - but nows it's six bottles on an alcohol free bus. So you can add not truthful to the list of his attributes. On the field he can produce the goods on some occasions but fell short on many others and picked up lots of injuries whilst at wakey. He may play really well for Bradford or not - I can'tsee in to the future so guess we will just have to wait

Except it's not. Huddersfield apparently did make him an offer.
Do the Wakey fans think it's coincidence that they happen to fall out with so many players? Off the top of my head, Solomona, Darrell Griffin and Sculthorpe have all come in for some right abuse after they left Wakefield. There's probably more too. And when I say abuse, I mean worse than you see at other clubs when players leave (with the occasional exception).

I would have thought Griffin left before Kear joined & Slowmoaner not long after, so it might be harsh on Kear. There is an impressive list of quality players who have chosen to leave Bradford for various reasons over the last few years come to think of it.

It wasn't aimed at Kear, it was aimed at the fans that seem to throw loads of abuse at more players that leave than any other club's fans do.

I suppose it depends how they leave, Sid Domic left and the fans welcomed him back, Ollie Elima left and the fans at Wakey still chant his name, would have thought it was the same at most clubs.
As for Scully, he broke the players code (the one they made to honour Adam Watene) would not apologise and accept the punishment, so thats enough for me.
Solomona, now he's the one i could never work out, bust a gutt for us, played through the pain barrier to keep us up. Promised to stay then left at the first chance and that split opinion down the middle.
Griffin spends a lot of time at BV with other players and fans, also attended Watene funds events and seemed quite happy mixing with fans, maybe its just a few on here who give of the impression that Wakey fans throw more abuse than others.

I was quite a regular on the Huddersfield board at the time Griffin moved and there were loads of fans on and from the Wakey Forum slagging "teapot" off. It all stemmed from something he said to a fan or did to a fan, but I forget the details of that.
I'm not saying it's done to every player, just seems like it's done more to people who leave Wakefield than any other club I've noticed.
