jonh:
Watched Salford most weeks and I’ve tried my best to see some positives in Vaughn and hope he improves us for 2026 even in a fringe role but to be honest I’m really struggling.
I appreciate he’s playing in a poor team and also out of position so that’s got to be taken into account obviously but defensively he’s all over the place and rarely wins contact.
On the positive side of things he’s clearly a competitor and passionate/hardworking player and obviously he’s still very young.
We have obviously seen something in him that we can develop and he’s got a pedigree coming through the age groups so I’m not writing him off, but hopefully in a good system he can improve his reads in defence in particular.
I've posted elsewhere Jon that I would rather keep Douglas than Vaughn and Sambou combined. Obviously that's based on the here and now, rather than what they may become, but I haven't seen anything in either that puts them even close to the class of Douglas. I really can't fathom what the point of this piece of recruitment is. On the face of it, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever especially if you give credence to the rumour that Vaughn (and possibly Sambou) came to Wigan on a substantial pay rise. I haven't seen anything in either that even suggests they'll be anywhere close to Wigan's first team anytime soon.
I hope the coaching staff have seen something I haven't, because all I can see is that we're replacing a fine, near first team ready player, with two average Joes.
