Seconded. Gets a lot of stick, but won’t be the same without hearing his voice.

Yeah fair play to guy, I know especially later on in his career he annoyed fans with his commentary but he was always clearly passionate and has given 30 years service to the sport. Happy retirement.



One point though just now at his goodbye post match, even then Phil Clarke is insufferable and tries his philosopher style talk saying goodbye and sounds fake whereas Carney just spoke genuine to him.

When Eddie was allowed to commentate without having to accommodate the ramblings of Clarke, McDermott, O'Connor & Cummings he was up there with the greatest of British sports commentators.

Agreed, forget the ‘who replaces argument him’, the key is it should be a 2 nan commentary team. That’s when Eddie and Steve were at their best. When you have 5/6 voices during a game it becomes a mess regardless of the quality of commentator.

Yep, After moaning about him every week I come to a sudden realization that his commentary will be missed especially with the fact that his role will probably be taken by Terry and Barrie - Be careful what you wish for and all that ey.

I think we’ll all miss him. The voice of rl in the modern era. A good man by all accounts as well. Whoever comes in- big shoes to fill.

Great commentator. Got a lot of stick over the years he didn’t deserve. Loves the games and I don’t think watching super league will be the same with carney and Oconnor.

Poor, biased commentator who never bothered to learn the rules of the game.



I'd say he won't be missed, but as RL is an afterthought for SKY these days (fantastic job on securing that new TV contract btw), they won't spend any money on finding a competent replacement.

He definitely adjusted to the rules year on year. Jog on
