It's worth a lot more for housing than as a sports ground.
Barry Hearn bought it from the club for £6m; they pay £180K a year rent to use it.
The 4 corners of the ground were sold for flats - for more than 7 million in 2003. Presumbably the rest of the ground would be worth more than that. |

So you'd have to be asking the government for help with a grant wouldn't you? Can't see Sport England having enough sway to refuse that kind of money either. Cheers Jon.

Sport England just gave netball £1m to encourage women to play netball, I'll repeat that, Sport England just gave netball £1m to encourage women to play netball. Sport England are really flipping stupid and have had their budget cut by a third, so they seem to be intent on wasting their money, unfortunately not on rugby league. |

They give just short of £8 million per year to rugby league. As our adult participation numbers are on a par with sports like Korfball, it could be argued that we do extremely well out of Sports England. One of the undisputably good things that Richard Lewis has done for the sport. |
