Quite simply, Branson and the owners since have totaly neglected any form of marketing and promotion.....we have currently been at the stoop for 7 full seasons this time around, yet I would be amazed if the residents of the borough knew we existed.
The best example I can give you of the ineptitude displayed at the club is the re-brand in November 2011.........firstly, there was no need for it. The only confusion I ever heard regarding the Harlequins RL name was that some school kids thought RL stood for Rugby Lessons.........our new website is LondonbroncosRL.com
Then the timing.......November 1st? over 3 months until the season started and they launch the "new" name with a dozen cabs liveried and a mention at the 4 Nations Double Header....nearly 100 days away from the season launch?
When it came to it, they ignored any major marketing in the build up to the season and 4,924 show up for the first game as Broncos.v2 v Saints........followed by 1,907 for the next home game v Hudds. The average attendance for Saints v Harlequins RL was 5,029 and for Huddersfield was 4,537.....so the first 2 games produced 2,735 LESS fans than we Averaged as Harlequins RL??????
David Hughes currently throws 1.5 million at the club, but refuses to employ people who are remotely qualified to turn things around....the current CEO who has presided over a 35% decline in attendances....he was let go from his previous job because of.....drum roll.......a decline in attendances.
If Central ownership/funding isn't possible, then at the very least the RFL should be prepared to pay the wages of a CEO for the club who would be given specific KPI's to meet.......because as it stands at present, Londons SL club will cease to exist at the end of the 2014 season if not before. The current average attendance at London Broncos RL home games is 2,193 this is down 22%.....at this rate, the London Skolars will soon overtake us as the premiere RL club in the city
Of course, the above is based on a mixture of facts (attendances/lack of marketing) and my opinion and in no way should be seen as the stance taken by the owners of this forum.
