| To reduce the number of overseas players playing in Super League we need to place greater emphasis on club trained players.
At present a club has to have eight club trained players in their squad of 25.
The best way of bringing through British talent would be to make it a rule whereby a club has to have eight club trained players in its 17 for each game.
That would compell clubs to scout, recruit, train and develop players in greater numbers and improve their quality knowing the demands of the 17 in SL.

| It would put too much pressure on players to stay at one club and their earning potential would suffer. Its all well and good having quotas but you've got to be careful about employment law and fairness

Yep. It doesn't actually matter that much whether Wigan trained players are still playing for Wigan or another SL club. As long as they're in SL somewhere it makes no difference. The best way is to simply be patient and wait for the non-fed trained rules to really kick in.

In the past Wigan have been negligent with some of our home-grown players. The club under Maurice/Whelan during the Super League era was an utter shambles. Thankfully we've seen that turnaround and we've got a coach who is not afraid to blood some young lads - we've also taken advantage of the dual registration system too.
Look we have too many overseas players. I want to see that number come down. Ben Cross is a short-term signing in a position we need to strengthen. Both Cross and Hoffman will leave next season for certain. That leaves Amos Roberts, George Carmont, Pat Richards, Brett Finch, Jeff Lima and Thomas Leuluai. That's 6 overseas players. The same as most clubs - ideally I would like to see the number stay at five and from next year with Amos Roberts, George Carmont and possibly Finch/Leuluai set to leave I think we'll achieve that.'"
Its good that you admit there is a problem at Wigan with the number of overseas players rather than being in denial like most Wigan fans. You say when Cross and Hoffman leave at the end of the season that will leave 6 overseas players (if were not counting Hansen but lets not get back onto that). This is presuming Wigan dont sign 2 overseas players to replace these, I suspect they will, but I suppose we will just have to wait and see.'"

| yet, you continue this debate using the term 'overseas' player. which as has already been pointed out is redundant given that place of birth and/or parentage is irrelevant regarding the classification of a player as 'fed trained' 'non fed trained etc'. 'Overseas' has no application in that classification process.
what about toulouse then? how many 'overseas' players have they gone through in recent years? and I include those who have been given french passports but are clearly not 'french'.

Are you seriously using a spurious rumour from the s*n to try and prove a point about Wigan and overseas players?
That's almost unspeakably stupid.
