| Quote dubairl="dubairl"I am sure you don't understand what Koukash and Lenagan are complaining about.
IL response would be "so why have you secured such a small amount of money for the main league sponsorship when we are getting viewing figures that smash rugby union? Obviously we are a main attraction from sky sports, so why panic and accept the first offer? Clearly it is a sellers market at the moment why didn't we wait and capitalise on it? Have you just used the new deal to fund the new league structure, so if it falls flat on its face we still have money? and not actually had any forward thinking."
and the Nigel would stutter and say well i am still in charge here is a 3000pound fine.'"
And the short but sweet response would be: "you voted for them Ian"
Ian Lenegan got oustmarted, out politicked and pressured in to a bad decision by Nigel Wood, He needs to be kept as far away from Barney Francis and his team as possible.

never made the wrong decision in life when being pressured? Show a sign of solidarity was the message from the previous meeting and all clubs agreed to it. Also your forgetting to mention the bribe the clubs received, hardly out smarted. But sure you can look at it in a blind manner if you like .
if you had 12 IL running super league clubs we would be a hell of a lot stronger than we are at the moment.

The good dr didn't feel pressured into agreeing. He voted against and I respect his decision, even if I don't agree with it

Because of course the negotiating team at Sky sports are known for taking a calm collegiate approach to negotiations.
If IL thinks that a meeting with Nigel Wood is a high pressure environment, then Barney Francis and the negotiating team and Sky Sports would eat him alive.
People don’t really have a problem with IL having a dissenting view, with him disagreeing with the deal but every reason and explanation he has given regarding his actions describe a person entirely incapable of doing the job he is criticising Nigel Wood for.
Contrary to popular belief im no great fan of Nigel Wood’s administration, I think he is making some huge mistakes. This isn’t one of them, this is a case of him doing a pretty good job and its difficult to find criticism of his negotiations with sky credible, when the one of the main voices making them couldn’t even negotiate with SL chairmen who were on his side.
Koukash comes out of this looking a hell of a lot better, at least he has the courage of his convictions and stood up to be counted.

| Quote SmokeyTA="SmokeyTA"It does point out the benefit of being on a much wider viewing platform though. There are 6/7million people with sky sports, 2m with BT sports.
I think we can all guess where this thread will end up though, with a spreadsheet and a complaint that the RFL didn’t issue the same press release when some game is 3.1% down on last years viewing figures.'"
Ok, but that's about 6% of people with Sky watching RL and only 3.5% of people with BT watching Union. It's still showing RL is better at attracting a viewing audience.

| Fantastic news this. The mere mention of Championship clubs coming back into the fold has already whetted the appetite of the public. Marvellous.

Well not really, because we aren’t single person households, so you wouldn’t start from 60/70m people, but 25million households,
its also unlikely that everyone could possibly, conceivably watch TV at the same time, there are going to be a few million working, on holiday, just generally busy at any one time anyway.
Its also unlikely that everyone would watch it on their own rather than in groups.
So its probably closer to 25% of households have access to Sky Sports and about 8% to BT sports. But that figure is still affected by the above
That figure is pretty much meaningless which is why you don’t often, except for huge events like the olympics opening ceremony or an England football World Cup game, find it expressed that way. Usually it will be expressed as an Audience Share, so the proportion of people watching tv at that time watching that programme.

So the facts are:
RL will get around £40m per year from 2017 for providing viewing figures of around 300k.
Meanwhile RU get just short of £51m per year NOW for providing viewing figures of around 65k. What were the RFU thinking inviting several tv companies to make bids?
Nigel has certainly socked it to BT and the RFU.
Meanwhile the French RU have around £60m per year for the next five years. The suckers played canal + against BeIn and others.
When will these RU lot learn?

| Even when the RU was on Sky their figures were dwarfed by Super League (and often even beaten by Championship RL when that was on Sky)

Good point. So why are RL deals so much poorer than RU?
