It rather reaffirms the point? If he thought he had a chance of win, he would have re-signed.

Yet Gareth Widdop leaves the storm for the Dragons.

| Quote Bondi_Warrior="Bondi_Warrior"He is certainly within a shout for a spot, and especially seeing how well he and Pearce are playing together, you could argue that it would benefit the Blues to play halves that are use to playing together at club level.
Although on the downside, it will be bad for the Roosters as this year they have to back up all 3 Origin games.

But they do have Daniel Mortimer to replace Mitchell Pearce, and Daniel Mortimer is like Daniel Holdsworth on steroids.

But surely. .... surely ... that is because St George will pay him a lot more than Melbourne --- carrying Slater, Cronk and Smith, plus Ryan Hoffman, under the salary cap -- could have.
You cannot blame a kid from Halifax for wanting to up his income from $150,000 a year to $650,000 a year. It''s not greed, it's just human nature to prefer the extra half a million dollars every year, win or lose.

Sam Tomkins probably does. And Ian Lenagan.

Wigan are paying him around £300,000 a quantity of this wage is exempt from the cap, add on his media work and it'll be a little more. I think he'd struggle to get much more than playing Union at club level but obviously international caps are worth about £20,000 to £30,000 each. I think the NRL would be more an life and rugby experience that any thing else as the money he's earning here is extremely good.

I like Mortimer and he has worked well as an impact player this season, however he isn't as good as either Pearce or Maloney. Besides if they both go to Origin, they will need more than just Mortimer.

Really? Superleague cap is £1,650,000.........if you're right, he's currently on 18% of the Wigan cap and whilst he can earn very good money in the NRL, but the Aviva currently has a cap that is essentially bigger and as for French Club Rugby.....he could earn 3 times his current wage there easily.
Also, on the "one player excluded" rule in the Aviva, he could become the highest paid player on the RFU's books and not even count on the cap at all.....
NRL £4,000,000
Top 14 £8,600,000
Aviva £4,500,000 with 1 player excluded
Welsh Union £3,500,000
Irish Rugby, no cap but only 1 non Irish player allowed per province
ARU £3,000,000
South African Union no cap
NZ no super Rugby cap, provincial cap is £750,000.
I don't believe the NZ Warriors need him....we have enough talent in depth over here and it's the coaching side of things we need to sort out. If he moved to Sydney he'd be a rock'n'roll star....I reckon a move to Brisbane might be best for him.

I hate to agree with the idiot troll, but a move to Brisbane might be better for him than a move to Auckland, in that he would get more media attention, more club fan adoration and a better coach.
However having Sam Tomkins and Shaun Johnson in the same team, with Kevin Locke on the wing, would definitely light up the playing field at Auckland.

majority of that is exempt from the cap, something i don't think hock could wrap he's head around. when signed the new contract i think it was announced at 350,000 plus add ons from the media work.
