Of course it's self publicity, but are you that naive to believe all the clubs are being well behaved over the salary cap?
If you take it that Wigan being the only club to deliberately breach the salary cap so far means I meant them so be it.

| Quote LeedsDave="LeedsDave"Sorry, You must have Leeds confused with a team that has to cheat to win things.. like Melbourne.
Secondly if you are serious in that comment then you can't have heard Sinfield's GF victory speech of 2009.. or at least you have severe issues surrounding trust and believing people.'"
Alternatively, get off your high horse.
He is the only one that immediately sprung to mind, not because I think Leeds are cheats, but because I remember him being very heavily linked with RU and then signing a new contract with Leeds. Not accusing him or Leeds of anything, just trying to throw a name out there to try and fit to what Keef was saying.
And as for him doing a speech, then wow. If only Melbourne had had the balls to lie in public about what they were paying players. Oh. Oops.

| Quote Saddened!="Saddened!"I would apply for that if it weren't 2 hours of commuting from my home. Can you imagine how interesting it would be?
You would be able to go into work and see how much each club was spending on players. "Oh, Tomkins is on £x, Westwood's paid £x, Eastmond was on £x".
Dream job.'"
So would I, if it didn't involve a massive pay cut

which is why no-one with any calibre will be applying for this job.
The salary level is at about what a graduate with 3/4 years experience at a Big 4 accounting firm would expect to be earning - and someone at that level is nowhere near experienced enough to manage the salary cap to the level it should be managed at.

They are not after a qualified accountant however. Nor a legal expert. The accountancy involved isn't difficult, knowledge of payroll taxes can be learned very quickly and the specifics of the sport and the cap would be foreign to even a senior partner at an established accountancy firm.
They just want someone with that sort of background to do the job. At the end of the day it's a box ticking exercise, a manual checking of submissions to payroll records and bank statements I would expect.
£28k these days isn't a 'low' salary like a lot of people are making out either. I doubt this role will be the only person doing it and I'd expect there to be both legal and accountancy expertise already employed by the RFL.

| From reading the job description, I would say you are totally wrong in virtually every word of that.
You get what you pay for. Its no wonder we get what we get from Rot Hall.
And is your "Dream Job" really finding out how much players earn (or such of their earnings as the salary cap auditor is aware of)? Takes all sorts, I guess?

I can't recall Sinfield ever having been massively and continuously linked with union to the degree he was supposedly about to sign a contract, although I think himself he admits he has spoken to people.
I'd have thought the obvious person to look at though would be Keiron Cunningham who fits the description perfectly.

| Quote Adeybull="Adeybull"A guy on another forum made what I think is the best (if maybe politically unacceptable) suggestion: all clubs to publish the salary cap values of their 25 Tier 1 players.
Then let the fans compare, and assess, and judge.
Won't stop the cheating, or using the device of third party image rights, but if a club has (say) a marquee player on what seems to be a disproportionately low salary cap value, then the fact that the world and his dog will assume that the club is cheating the cap somehow might be a strong deterrent. As well as inviting HMRC to look closely at that player's affairs...
Its an idea that where the devil would be in the detail, but I have not seen any better suggestion to resolve the problem in real time, as opposed to down the track as in DG's interesting idea above.
And it would be interesting to hear a club explain how Bruce Ocker was understood to be on half a million Aussie and some back in Oz, as well as third party image rights, yet over here he is one of Phil Clarke's mythical £100k players...'" What if Bruce Ocker resents having his earnings published? It seems that the when people discuss the salary cap they never seem to take into account the thoughts and feelings of the people who it actually affects...........The people whose salary is capped.

I thought the RFL were quite open to the fact they ended up paying part of his wages to keep him in RL?
And then he promptly retired from internationals.
