| Has [url=http://www.thereddevils.net/news/post/tomkins-commits-to-devilssigned[/url a year deal.
That explains Hood's departure then.

| Not as good as Hood, first move by the club since Sheens came on board that is poor.
Other signings I am happy to give the benefit of the doubt and see how they do but I've seen enough of Tomkins to know it is clear that Hood offered much more when given his chance last season.

| This is poor was Wigan's 4th choice, but had a feeling it could happen.
Can't believe TS has been involved in this decision, Hood was surely a better option.

I too was a bit gutted when Hood left.. I enjoyed watching him play and off the bench he really upped the tempo and added some zip but maybe with the imminent reduction in interchanges.. Sheens had a look and thought he needs players who can do more minutes?...not bothered about Tomkins being Wigan's 4th best hooker ..he was good for Salford ..solid in defence..can fit straight back in and knows the structures so potentially between Lee -Tomkins and possibly O'Brien the hooking role should be adequately covered...not forgetting O'Brien has a decent boot on him.

| Does no one else feel that Hood's decision to leave was made by himself and not Salford's necessary?
He's only a young lad and has been given an opportunity of a lifetime to go and play Down Under.
He'd be foolish to turn that down and stay at Salford in my opinion.
Back on topic, I'm happy with us signing Tomkins. Dependable, hard working, honest and already knows the systems and majority of staff and players.

| Just can't get excited by this signing, doesn't give us anything going forward, this is the issue we've had for years at 9.
Most other teams have a dynamic hooker who puts the defence on the back foot.
And for what it's worth Obrien is not a hooker.

100% agree!! Tomkins and Lee aren't gonna put any defence on the back foot!

| I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Watson and Sheens.
There's nothing wrong with Tomkins, he's just underwhelming. He works hard and never seems to let his head drop, which may be an asset in the coming season if things get tough. I'm also of the opinion that Hood has gone because he's been offered the opportunity in Australia, and good luck to the lad. I certainly don't think he's been discarded in favour of Tomkins.
At the end of the day he's another hard worker in a position we were light in. There's certainly worse around.

| Tomkins has been drafted in twice , mid season in disruptive coaching , team situations. I give him credit for wanting to come back a third time.
At least he will get a full preseason so will give him the benefit of the doubt.

| I'm with Perry Boy on this. Alker was given the chance and regretted not taking it.

| I'm glad in a sense that we've addressed a 2nd hooker but i feel Hood offered more of a creative role than Tomkins. I'm very underwhelmed with Sheen's decision here. we have one of the worst hooker pairings in the league for creativity and three of the worst Props in the league in Joseph and the two walnuts. Gee we need Ferres badly it doesn't look good.
