| Quote Early Bath="Early Bath"Duneman please.'"
who in their right mind who want/employ another untried Australian coach after this debacle ?
moreover which Overseas Coach worth his salt would touch us after Parish ?
forget all the high talking , what we need is an experienced english based coach who can give us some period of stability and claw back a semblance of credibility.
but as Andy Wilson so candidly put it :- Quote Early BathHowever if Salford didn't have the sense to go for either of them or the lower-profile Powell last summer, there doesn't seem any likelihood that they will be capable of wising up now. Prepare for another preposterous appointment'"

Harrison was found out half way through 2006. We limped over the line in the end that year and by the middle of 2007 was fodder.

| If you were Powell and the club came to you cap in hand after turning you down in the initial interviews ( was he actually interviewed?) would you tell them to stuff it or would you look on this as a second chance to prove yourself?

| From talking to Leeds fans it seems Powell was left with the same sort of situation at Leeds when he took over, no money and no youth. Look at the standard of juniors he produced after that.
We need to move quickly and appointment someone even if only 12 mths such as Noble.
This is our most important season for last last 20 years and neeed to make the new stadium/team work.
If we don't we won't be sharing with Sale they will be sole tenant!

Can we really gamble on Noble for 1 year? We need a coach to take us forward. We have 2 years to solidify the clubs place in SL. If Noble does 1 year then a new coach would be coming for the beginning of year 2. That's not a stable enough situation to build a competitive team, increase crowds and do the other things needed to stay in SL.
We have to ensure we don't do a quick fix option. Yet also not panic and get the wrong person in. Hopefully the clubs second choice person is still available and willing to give the club a chance.
As for your last statement I've posted a similar thing elsewhere. I agree with you completely

| Powell would be a great appointment. Knows the game inside out, tactically astute, well respected amongst the players and has a huge amount of contacts. Trouble is, he's probably far too smart to be daft enough to take on the Salford job - as mentioned on various threads, Salford's reputation amongst the playing/coaching fraternity is at an all-time low because of various factors, and no doubt Mr Simms will fancy another few weeks in Australia instead of an afternoon in Fev!

| Quote WarwickUniWolf="WarwickUniWolf"I'd like to see you give Karl Harrison another shot.

Yes there will be coaches with a more glistening resumae but if everyone tells you there's not a chance in hell they'll join, then Harrison would be a decent choice.'"
Sorry Rhino has his dream job

| Daryl Powell's the best option IMO. He did OK at Leeds, considering he had no coaching experience, went straight from playing to coaching his old mates, and the club had a bad atmosphere after the Dean Lance business, Powell sorted them out moved some players on and put together the nucleus of a team that was going to win 5 SL trophies in the next 8 years, and that was his first 'learning the ropes' post. At the time he was seen as just getting the job because he was Hetherington's mate but he did well.
But then after some time out coaching in union he came back to Featherstone and made them league leaders one year, Grand Final winners the next, so he has obviously got something about him.
I think Powell's a good bloke as well, everybody in the game seems to respect him, no big ego or rub people up the wrong way, he seems like a quiet bloke that understands RL and knows how to put together a credible team and thats what I reckon Salford need at this time, not a big character but someone that will quietly get them to a position of playoff contenders.
