| I don't remember St Helens calling for slow organic growth in the 90s when they built a championship and cup winning side (which will have helped the subsequent youth production line immensely) on the back of bringing in the likes of Goulding, Martyn, Joynt, Newlove, Sullivan, Hunte, Perellini, Matautia, Gibbs etc

That's the major hypocrisy in all of this. Most of the clubs slating us for trying to become competitive quickly have done exactly the same at some point. St's as highlighted above, Wigan in the 80s, Widnes in the 80s, Wire in the last 10 years. Wigan and Saints in particular have been able to use the success they've had to blood youngsters in a way that would be impossible for us to do starting from such a position of weakness. The idea that we could have progressed 'organically' with Theo and Sneyd at half back this year is madness.

I think Sneyd would have been good for us this year with a decent pack to work with. Fages is a brilliant kid but I think is just too small at the moment, he was getting manhandled by Saints due to his size...He'll fill out in time but not this season.
Signing 2 quality halfbacks was 1 too many though IMO and I can see where people are coming from in that respect. The team should have been built around developing what quality youth we have at the moment, instead we're moving what we already had to fit around players we've bought.
We'll see what happens come the end of the season but some decisions have been a little dubious in my eyes, particularly the halfback situation.

| Even if the marquee rule was brought in,what sort of world class players would be attracted to Salford given you have zero record of success for years and years?

The sort of world class player who likes a massive wedge in their back pocket - which generally means any of them.

What an absolute waste of motor skills you have there.... moving the thought to sissy soccer for a moment, how successful had Man City been up until they were in a position to pay mercenaries???
Fact is Money talks

The huge difference is Man City were already a big club before they could attract these mercenaries, despite them going 34 years trophyless.
By contrast, Salford Red Devils aren't a big club...in any way shape or form.
The top RL players want to sign for the likes of Wigan,St Helens and Leeds. Big clubs. Big name clubs with a tradition of success, something Salford Red Devils certainly DON'T have.
You may, just may, be able to attract the next rank down of players rather than the cream of the crop.

In the eyes of their own fans, yes, but no-one else is fooled (bar numpties like yourself).

B0ll0x! Manchester City were a small lower table club compared to the top half of the premier league, only got big crowds when Utd came to town, no players ever heard of them, simple fact is money talks and a sporting career is short, players will want to get as much as they can.
Show players the money they will come it's happened at City, Chelsea, PSG, Monaco. All preciously average clubs who have gone on to altot better things WITH money!

League Championships (before either club's current wealth)
Salford: 6 (six)
city: 2 (two)
Jog on bell end.
