This. On another thread somewhere I hinted that I was a tiny bit concerned about the way things are heading. I had the C-word in my head but didn't want to use it, but now it's out there, I will.
I'm concerned that this rush to immediate success will lead to us becoming like Chelsea, where the manager's name is written on his office door on a Post-It note. Alex Ferguson ("The Greatest Managorrrr Evorrrrr"[size=50(TM)[/size) spent years throwing money at the United team before he eventually lucked in to getting it right. He was, at one point I remember, on the verge of getting the elbow, but the club stuck with him. This continuity has led to years of sustained trophy acquisition, and now he can go out each year and spend less than the teams trying to catch up, and United fans can convince themselves that they haven't bought success. Chelsea have gone down the "overspend, have one or two successful years then struggle, then have a revolving door manager policy" route, and it isn't working. I fear the Chelsea syndrome at Salford.
OK. Shoot me. I can take it.
