Who else remembers when it was the Ritz cinema.



My Mum used to work there as an iced cream lady so got loads of free tickets.

I remember it when it was the ABC cinema, remember watching Jaws in 75 awesome. And walking past gartons as it was in white paint on the roof thinking it was funny that it was "snotrag" backwards.

Bit before my time that, although I used to frequent Mr Biffs during my college years. Used to be a decent place to pull chicks if you managed to avoid the weekly bottle fight.



Shame about the building though, one of the more aesthetically pleasing in the town. Should be putting it to some use rather than tearing it down.

I remember queing up on Boxing Day there to watch Jaws in 1975 or 76?

Hate to admit it, but I went to the ABC Minors there from about 1965. Can still remember the entire minors song.

I met my Mrs there in 1988. I wish they'd knocked it down in 1987!!

Great building? Hardly a design classic.



WBC have been party to the development options for a good while.

I shouldn't be allowed, regardless of people's opinions of it when it was a nightclub, it is an iconic building to those from the town.

Is it? I'm in my thirties and to me it's nothing but a former nightclub. They can knock it down tomorrow for all I care. I don't see it as iconic in a positive sense, more a beacon for everything that was bad about the town. It was a great day when the nightclub ended and having it redeveloped into something else or left as open ground is fine by me.



What would you rather they did? Left the shell abandoned?

The building has been out of use for 4 years and is not a listed building, which means the owner can demolish and the Council cannot intervene & has no powers whatsoever. I remember going to watch Private Benjamin with my Mum and Dad..

The last 3 films I watched there was Grease, Warlords of Atlantis and Hanger 18.



Apparently Laurel and Hardy performed there when it was a theatre.

All you know everything that was good and bad about Warrington. Thank f*** you don't speak for the majority.



Had some great nights in Smiths, I'll be sorry to see it go.
