I reckon I've got to 9 plus Wembley, and two friendlies (Wigan and Swinton). Wish I could get to more- might get a season ticket and just book off any relevant Fridays...
Still, I reckon a full house on Sunday, I really do.

In every Rugby League town across the country there are 'lapsed' fans, and casual fans (not like Des). The trick is getting these to turn up regularly, and marketing is required for this.
To illustrate the point, Wigan attracted around 19k Wigan fans to the Leeds game recently, yet only 12k last Friday. This was through effort and tapping into those lapesd fans.
At Wembley, we had 12 of us in our group. Only 2 of us are ST holders, and another couple attend as many matches as they can each year. I believe that all 12 had attended matches in the past, many on a regular basis, however people's priorities change. If a Wembley visit gets these back interested then that is good enough for me.
One of my sisters has already asked about season ticket prices, as se said she had forgotten how much she enjoyed watching the Rugby. She is looking to bring a friend too.
Not everybody can (or wants to) pay around £20 a match to watch Rugby, but anything that gets them along is good for me.

Sometimes you just need to get them in, show them a good time and hope they come back.
People still had to pay a tenner to get in, to go to the cinema it costs a lot less, yet people wouldn't go if they had no interest in the film that was showing.

I've been going for thirty, and I for one welcome these glory hunters. May take my son next week to his first game. Hope nobody labels him.
IMO all those glory hunters made the difference on the day. I bet Shudds would have loved to swop.'"

It is but only it does put the marketing campaign into context (my word of the day it seems). You can spend a million marketing a game but if the price is wrong, they won't bother. Drop prices by 40% and surprise surprise, people show up.
I'm not criticising them by the way, far from it. I'm sure they did their sums and that it made sense. Wigan have done very well on crowds the last fews years and deserve applause for it, especially as their core support is relatively disaffected.

Part of the marketing campaign is the price, I agree. This is why I always disagree with people who think sticking a load of posters in pub windows will get people in.
For many fans, especially lapsed or casual fans, and especially in the current climate, there needs to be an incentive to attend, and price is always a key one there. People love a bargain.

| I think nearly all on this thread are missing the point that Wembley is an occasion, as much as a game.
