But you don't play a professional contact sport.
No player is more likely to be injured more than any other. It comes down to physical preparation and just plain luck.
And quite frankly the way some of the people on this forum talk about players when this is their livelihood is quite simply astonishing.

I apologise then. Never again will I criticize "the waste of skin in the 15 jersey", simply because he chose RL as his vocation.
I'll forget the fact that he's not even tried since he's come over here, simply because it says Professional Rugby League player on his passport. He really is a thoroughly nice chap, and I hope and pray the club offers him a new contract.
Going back in time, I'm aghast that Andy Currier never achieved Knight's Garter recognition, for his time in a Wire jumper.
I'm truly an awful judge of character, as these two obviously "busted a gut" for us, during their time playing for us.
Crap players, I can handle. We can't field teams full of Hanleys, Johns', Langers, Meningas. Non tryers are a different kettle of fish
Astonishing indeed.

but while people like the majority of us on these forums have to save up for tickets, carefully plan finances, arrange working schedules, swap shifts, arrange family time, and pay extortionate TV & cable Companies ..just for the pleasure of watching these people playout their livelihoods.....While we are doing all that for them, they will quietly sit in a room with an Agent and organise a way to off for a few quid more.......
as long as no one wishes anyone an injury or takes it as far as the mat rodwell then its all fair game to me....its just an internet page on a screen

| I totally refute the idea that a players injury record is not connected to his [imental[/i preparation as well as his physical, as well as luck. A player who is not fully switched on, honed and sharp mentally is more likely to pick up injuries and in Wheeler I think there is a bit of the Rhys Williams work-ethic at play. Either that or he has bucketloads of bad luck and should be investing in some lucky heather plantations.
As for some of the others who have failed us of late - Atkins, Asotasi being two good examples, injuries have played no part in their "performances" of the last couple of years. They simply haven't wanted it enough.

| A person that chooses RL as their vocation (has my full respect) will accept and expect that during their time will have some injuries and as fans we should accept and expect this too.
Players like Grix, both Evans' have suffered injuries on a regular basis, I am sure that there are others that you guys can name. Our club chose to bring in one of the most injury prone players of the current era, questions should be asked at the highest level as to why.
There is only so much we can do for a injured player and I think we do a good job in the main, but if injuries keep arising do we look at the players or the conditioning, sometimes its pretty clear to see one or the other is at fault. Bad luck plays its part as well.
Players who can't be ar$$ed are a different issue. In the 30+ years I have watched this club there have been far too many. I did think with TS we had driven that out of the club, sadly I was mistaken. We have a lazy lump at 15 and a centre that is only bothered when he can score a try.
We then have to look at the standard of player we have, we brought in back up props (England and Riley) that are clearly miles off the standards we have set recently. Since Briers retired we have as we all know suffered immensely. Myler has never taken the mantle, GOB is clearly not good enough.
We do have some great/good players though, Westwood, Hill, Sims, Clarke, Ratchford, Sandow, Currie and Russell
We have a fast player, Penny
We have some sloooow players, Monaghan, Ormsby
We have some talent too, Wilde, Philbin, T King, G King, Patton has shown great promise so far and has a chance to learn off a modern NRL star.
I know that you guys can name more players than I have, but its early.
When will this club realise that sentimentality with the players and coaches gets us no where. That said I don't advocate knee jerk reactions but considered approach with all issues.

We did and he was a fine player at that time, he may prove to be that again, but age and aftermath of injuries are not on his side.

| i think what's forgotten in this situation is that as well as the broken leg, he needed a shoulder operation as well, which was delayed due to the leg not healing as well or as quickly as they'd expected.
This season is pretty much almost a write off for him, which is a shame in a short career.

| These guys put themselves through incredible pain on occasions and they certainly have my respect, but when it all boils down I want my club to be moving forward every season and not holding on to past glories, under achieving and crocked players.

| Your argument may have had even a minuscule point before this season, but we've already got Sandow, Lineham and Gidley for next year with more to come. We signed up the current man of steel, and Sims who has the passion in the right place and is a big influence on giving us a kick up the butt half the time, which he actually shouldn't even have to do. So, no, it's not like we're scrimping, Wheeler is literally the only guy we've shipped in who was bottom of the barrel and we probably got paid to take the sod. Asotasi came over with a lot of promise but hasn't delivered, it wasn't a punt on him however, he's just turned out to be cack for us.
