| But what it a mistake? How do they prove it was? He probably had video referee Ian Smith chunnering in his ear all game, "Give them an extra go, god I hate Saints". "Refer that, I wanna disallow it, I hate those Saints".
I think it's just a shame Saints don't have Daniel Anderson any more. After the horrendous VR decision against Eastmond, Anderson would have kicked off major style about Smith. Throw in the 7 tackles issue and there would have been carnage at RFL HQ.
Saints really have had it hard this season with video refs and refs in general. The statistic Simmons used after the game that Saints have only received 3 penalties for offside all season is just utterly bizarre given how we base our game around speed at the play the ball. Throw in 'those' forward passes for tries at Leeds and Wigan and anyone would think there was a conspiracy against us.

| Im a ref and tackle counts are the hardest thing to do. You have to remember everything about the game whilst looking fro infringements, checking for offside, checking for knock ons, checking for everything. Its really not easy.

But what about his wing men? Surely the video referee or one of the two touch judges could point out the error he was making. For example when Childs shouted '3rd' a second time, surely one of them could have said '4th actually numbnuts'?
The officials in SL are there because they are the only people who have put their hand up to do it. They are, on the whole, not competent individuals and they lack the intelligence and presence to make a proper go at it. But the sport wraps them in a protective bubble and refuses to acknowledge any criticism of them.
We can understand mistakes, but 45 degree forward passes being ignored and tackle counts being mis counted are not acceptable. There should be a proper, public, review of each referee's performance. The coaches should grade them, the RFL should review and grade them and it should all be published on the RFL's website. Childs IMO should never referee another game, but then neither should the likes of Bentham, Silverwood and Ian Smith who all clearly have issues with certain sides.

| Looking at this week's appointments he isn't refereeing any game; he is touch judge in 2 super league games though, Salford v Cas on Friday and our game on Sunday

| Pretty poor to be honest to happen at this level. Yes, he his human, he will make mistakes, but James Child simply isn't fit up to Super League standard. I recall that he did similar against us. Played 6 tackles, but didn't wave the tackle count at all. Thankfully nothing came of that though. James Child is a very poor official and it complete baffles me how he is getting Super League fixtures, never mind the bigger games on Sky Sports.

Never mind us, can you imagine if it was the other way round and Bradford had been done over, imagine the fuss Yorkshire folk would have made of this
Its just like the good old days when Bradford ran the game, 1997 was it, when Jimmy Lowes got Players Player of the Year, Man of Steel and Referee of the Year in the same season

Don't worry. Simmons is kicking off too:

The fact that you run the ball from dummy half all the time means that all your penalties are for markers not straight and not offisde: selective use of data by Simmons.
In fact I undertsand you have had more penalties than any other team for markers not being straight.
(I wonder if the lack of your normal off-side penalties relates to playing matches at Widnes rather than at Saints where the whole of one stand use to constantly scream for off-side penalties. It could be something you will have to get use to if your more vocal support is being the sticks at your new ground).

Ah very clever, I hadn't considered that. You can see why I'm not a politician. Good points well made.
3 is still a very small number in that regard. I'll bet the average conceded per game for most teams is probably 3 or 4?

| I love all this ref bashing - it quite amuses me !! I have reffed a couple of social games and can state that it is a bloody nightmare even at that level.
Consider how many decisions a ref has to make during a game - 500 - 600 tackles a game - each tackles requires the ref to review a number of technical issues - tackle complete / infringement in the tackle / player regains feet / plays ball with foot / markers square / defence onside. That's 6 areas to review x 600 = 3600 decisions. Then you add in the regular refereeing decisions during the passing / kicking phases - all of this going in whilst the players are now operating and top speed and pushing the rules to the limit.
Let's say 4000 decisions per game !! Child made 2 errors (knock on - which he probably didn't see) and the tackle count - a success factor of 99.95%
I can live with that
