Not sure whether we would be allowed/could afford to run an Academy. However, one thing we have discovered this season, is that we need some form of backup squad, for when injuries & suspensions deplete our first team squad. We are currently having to run with a paper thin squad. Not many of our short term loan signings have been a big success, and possibly their loyalties tend to lie with their 'parent' club.

If leigh when they was potless could afford the A teams & academies why cant we now ?

We still are potless,what makes you think different? Academies are an education,that's why they don't come cheap.

Being part of Leigh first academy in 1991, i must say not having one isnt great. There is an abundance of fantastic young players from Leigh, and everyone talks about Rowley, Baldwin and Martin but there were better players in the squad who didnt get a sniff.



I am sure Derek can afford the coach fares to games as us kids had a whale of a time training with the first team squad twice a week.



Staying in SL is massive, and it can restrict the pull of Leigh born players going elsewhere. Leighs loss has been Wires, Wigan and Staines gain for too long now !!



The kids are the future and RL seems to have lost its way a little bit.
