| Quote poplar panther="poplar panther"I loved Olsi's try. Just like the old Clubby near the line - "gimme the ball near the line" I'm gonna score! The only Albanian to score in SL this year, the announcer didn't say!'"
There were a couple of occasions in the second half where Clubb wanted the ball out wide but couldn't get into position in time before it went out to O'Callaghan. I'm sure Clubb would have got over the line from those positions.
It already seems ridiculous to think of Clubb as having been a back. Boy, has he filled out.

| From Saints Website :
'This is a very good attacking side, with threats all over the park; from the experienced and skillful foreign backs in Robertson, Witt and Gower to their mobile pack consisting of the likes of the impressive Bailey to their great youth prospects Dixon, O'Callaghan and Krasniqi. Their halves are commanding, and the overall structure is a threatening one that will probably cause many a side in Super League problems this year.'

| That was a much better Broncos team than last year. There was far more weight in the middle, and Kaufusi looked very effective, although he was clearly not enjoying the temperature. The key difference though was Gower. Broncos looked like they were actually playing to a plan, and were being steered around the park. They were steady throughout. Some of Gower's work was very impressive. I had wondered whether that signing was a bit too much of a risk, but today was reminded that you don't get to be the Kangaroo scrum-half without being pretty special. Some of the Broncos' handling along the backline and running angles was also a step above last season. You didn't get that sense of headlessness near the opponents' line which seemed standard last year.
Saints looked a bit rusty, but as already pointed out, they're going to destroy some teams this year. Lomax played a more dominant game than I've seen before, and Hohaia at fullback offered the sort of pace and penetration which Wellens hasn't offered for some time. Gaskell's kicking game meant that those three key positions looked more sound for Saints than any time since Long and Pryce were ever-present. Roby was also his very good today, and without him, that game might not have ended up the way it did.
That was a good game between two strong sides. Much better than I'd hoped.
Tell you what, though : I haven't been that cold watching a match since 1995. Good grief.

| Think I watched a dif game. Saints did bigger all apart from
Do us on scoots from dummy half.
We handed them their trys and they got lucky. We controlled much of the game and a it was only our errors - and two/three decisions I couldn't work out. That gave them the lead.
Our shortcomings- tightening around the ruck- can be worked on- otherwise we matched or bettered them in plenty of areas.
And when was the last time we matched up size-wise with a top team?

That's as maybe - I wasn't there so I don't know - but that has been winning us games since 2006 so I would suggest, especially given that we beat you today, that we in fact did more than 'bigger all' (although I think you meant to write 'bugger' there, but never mind).

| Very gutsy performance from you guys today, reckon you'll surprise quite a few people this season.
Krasniqi looked a big lad, definitely one for the future.
Best of luck from a Wiganer

That's what I watched. We had quite a few chances in the second half. Think the team will get alot better. Great day out.

| Roby-Say no more he was the difference. What a player he is.
Thought Colborn was magic in the first half. Injured last play of the half by all accounts
Bryant ran well. Bailey and Rodney were tough
What was Dorn doing passing that ball under his sticks to Dixon. Take control of your own mistakes as a senior player hit the deck and lets start the six from there, not give some crazy pass to a young lad.
Plenty to be pleased about.

| Thought Rodney played really well. Am i right in thinking he played the whole match? I would think he took the most hit ups today.
Expected a bit more from Bryant.
Overall fitness was good.
But for the first game a great effort.

I was absolutely seething about that. Unforgiveable mistake from a player of his experience.
There were plenty of encouraging signs yesterday. I would rather we started slowly and built throughout the season rather than starting like a train and then collapsing like we did last year. The new signings all add something important to the side, the standouts for me were Kaufusi and Gower. Robertson blotted his copybook with that lazy bit of play letting the ball go through his legs leading to the try. Up until then he had also been good.
We looked very decent with ball in hand, if a little predictable (drive up the middle, again and again). Saints killed us from dummy half as has been said. I don't want to get too carried away - Warrington away will be hugely tough - but as I say, enough positive signs.
