| I dont think we should get Powell out, i think he should take a number 2 role with someone else at number 1. At least Powell will learn and give us someone for the future? Problem is who is going to coach us?

| Awful result. What's the point in playing the same 17 every week, when we just see the same abject performances? What is Powell's game plan exactly? We creativity, no passion. Bottom of the league here we come.

Nerve touched there? Wigan have a wonderful set up and are stuffed full of great local talent. Someone makes a comment about the nationality of the try scorers and we get a bite. Sorry some of them where not as far as I'm aware from Ince.

| The RFL's "10-10-5" rule disadvantaged us more than any other club - Crusaders are exempt, and Catalan get all of France for their 10 'locals'. 10 years more of development, maybe it would have been OK, but that and a lack of ability to spend the same money on players as other clubs has meant our club and coach aren't playing on an equal footing. A dunder-headed decision, that makes me angry, in an age we should be past who's from where in professional sport. Who in our squad who ran out Friday would get a run in anything but the bottom four teams?
A nonsense rule that's killing the league we watch at pro level, bit by bit. And for what? A better international team? Working well, that.

I am with you, there always seems to be this talk about improving standards of home grown so the national team can be succesful
WHY? the national press and tv do not care about RL so even if we did win the four nations and or world cup, we would get non of the furor that the yawnion did! we would get half page in the broad sheets, full page in red tops and maybe a 30 second slot on the national news, that would be it, we would not get the massive surge in interest that Yawnion got.
We have a really good domestic league, compared to Yawnion its miles ahead and thats from union officials! (speaking to some of em on thus)
I agree home grown players are good for the game as a whole and lets be honest the top aussie NZ players are going to go where the money is. What i find shocking is how the imports are hyped up even more now! why would anyone PAY to watch a new imports first training session!!!!?

Good post but how big is Quins' local area?

| I would guess in terms of geography and population, plenty big enough - in terms of actual rugby league players, 500-600? (That's a guess).
I'm being pretty harsh on Catalan in that post actually - I don't think they're really any better off than Quins more I think about it. My point was more that it advantaged the clubs that at that point had 10 "local" players of Super League standard. Those same clubs probably had a better and/or cheaper chance of getting the 10 "British" (Federation) players too because of geography.
We don't need to many disadvantages for things not to work out too well, historically.

The one thing to hold on to (and the big gamble) is that some of these young lads coming through will end up SL standard, and that we can stay afloat long enough for them to play for us. Don't think the RFL will let us fail frankly - they need a successful SL team in London.
I'm not quite as pessimistic as some others on here. We all knew at the start of the season it was going to be tough - rookie coach, thin squad, missing quality in key positions. Yes, our current run is dreadful, but we shouldn't be tearing our hair out and being dished out a beating by a side like Wigan; Its the defeats to Hull and Catalans which should make us more worried.
We had bad runs under McDermott too - sacking Powell mid-season solves nothing. We can either hope he's learning from what's going on and keep him as coach or we pursue this director of rugby idea, which I think has some mileage. Unfortunately the prime candidate for it (Noble) probably wouldn't be interested.

And how long will it take to achieve that?
We have had over 25years of trying and so little to show for it
I wish I was more optimistic but the longer the season goes on I think we will be lucky to be playing in front of 1,500 at the end of it. Something hugely positive needs to happen and soon, otherwise I fear this will be our last season in SL.
