This was the comparison that came to my mind instantly. 

Sutton looked like he made massive progress in his time at Canberra and was much fitter and more effective than the player that left Wigan, he has since however suffered constant injury setback at Canterbury, to the point that looking at the online chatter plenty of people forgot that he even played for them.


He was on a pretty hefty contract there if reports are to be believed, but surely after being released early and scratching around for a contract like he is now, combine that with his recent injury record and he can't be in a position to be commanding a big salary. Being a homegrown Wigan player too has it's benefits.


I was skeptical about the Thompson signing at the time and didn't feel it was the correct decision to go for him especially on the contract that we did, however time has proved me very wrong on that one thankfully. If the club decided to go for Sutton they would get my trust this time.

I think Sutton is completely different to Luke.   

Luke was at a much higher bar in his prime for starters and coming to Wigan he had a big point to prove  - not only that he could perform at the top again but also coming to arch rivals Wigan knowing that all of St Helens would want him to fail.  


Sutton did really well at Canberra and has always said he wants to stay in Aus.   I think coming back to England and especially Wigan will be seen as a failure and a fallback option.   A bit like leaving home, enjoying a new life, independence and career away from your parents then losing your job, running out of money and having to go back to stay in your old bedroom when all your mates have also moved on ........     I think that's why most returning players never really work out.


We have a stack of good props still with Sam looking really good at prop rather than 2nd row and Makin in the wings.    We need to look at 2nd row cover now to deal with Faz eventually winding down and now Sam looks like Hill's direct replacement as bench prop. 

I may be horribly wrong with this but I wonder if Sambou has actually signed for Wigan? There were rumours that he has U turned on the deal and then Wellens mentioned him yesterday as an option for this weekends game. No mention of Vaughan who given our injuries is a more experienced player and has actually played first team before. Vaughan hasn't made a 21 man squad so far this season. 


Sambou has been named in the 21 man squad today and by all accounts will play on Friday. Just seems a bit strange to me. However we now have Feldt's injury to add to Murphy, Hurrell, Dagnall and Percival (who may also miss Friday but back next week) so he may well be set for some game time over the next few weeks. 

I'll believe either player has signed when one of the clubs makes an official announcement, until then it's just Wigan/Saints banter

I think Vaughan has 100%. It seemed like a family member of his was defending him on Red Vee and he has been ostracised from the squad so far this season.
