I haven't lived in Wigan since 1965. My Dad is from Wigan, born down Miry lane in the early 1920's.



So we have no idea if Pooles Pies are any good nowadays. Seems the local ASDA are now flogging them.



Are they worth buying ?



The competition isn't too great in my 'neck of the woods'.

Take your shoe off. Fill it with the poorest quality meat and potato you can find. Eat it. That will taste better than a Poole's pie.

They used to be fantastic when they had the restaurant opposite northewstern station....... double meat pie, chips, peas gravy two slices of bread & a cup of tea mmmmmmmm.

That was Wigans first 24 hour pie shop knock on side door get a pie anytime yes they were good then. Since the takeover and mass-production they are not a patch on the original ones. Does Mr Wigan (D.W.) still own the now.

They have always been stinking IMO.



The smell of cooking meat from the shop near wallgate used to turn my stomach.

Today, the so-called Poole's pies are nothing like the original ones, from the shop on Wallgate.

Best meat and potato pies in Wigan now are from the Rollin Pin bakery at Newtown.

Agree with the others, in the past really nice. Since Dave 'TooTight' Whelan bought them and they went into mass production, not so great at all. It's a travesty they carry the same name (mind you I think thats what he bought them for, not the recipes or experience).

People probably think we are being bitter about whelan but no, they really are cack.

The cheese and onion ones are great

I dissagree I cant get enough of them best Pies in wigan imo.

Well that's a sad testimony to the standard of the average pie in our once great town
