I would.
He's a great player (although i'd actually question his England performances over the past few seasons but then who's wouldn't you at times), he's got huge experience on both sides of the world, he's vocal on the pitch, seems to be massively respected and he'll be back based in the UK in time for the start of the world cup year in 2013.
Ellis as captain with Sam Tomkins as vice captain for me.

Says the man on the Wigan board.... Its called an opinion, we have them over here.
I would make Sam captain and get some good PR.

| Quote sally cinnamon="sally cinnamon"What has Sinfield ever done that could suggest he's leadership material?
Yeah I know Leeds are Super League and World Club Champions blah blah but he just rides on the back of having the best team, anyone would look like a good captain with Leeds squad behind him.
IMO it should be Lockers because he has led a team of fairly average players to being a strong side in SL and if we're going to get England to compete with the Aussies that's the type of thing we need.'"
Never been a big Sinfield fan but the first sentence is just silly, he's been the captain of the most successful team in the SL era, that's quite a lot to suggest he's leadership material

But he doesn't warrant a place for his playing. It needs to be a captain who's more or less guaranteed to be selected on playing ability, as Peacock was, in his prime, and as Ellis or Lockers are now.

| To be honest, i think Sam as Captain is a stupid idea. We need someone who'll calm things down when necessary, not just Gee things up. Lockers all the way for me. Plus Sam'll be playing Onion in 2 years cos they'll offer him silly money.

Not really obsessed, JP is way past it now and Sinfield is no where near as good as he was, look at Leeds now, they're awful.
So it's not an obsession, it's just the truth

| I have a feeling it will be Sinfield or Lockers but I'd put my money on the Leeds man since he has more big game experience and a more consistent run in the England side of late.
IMO Graham is too much of a hothead and, whilst I think Sam is a great player, he's not mature enough for the role. Another name nobody has mentioned so far is Roby. Good player and currently the first choice hooker for England. There's also Wilkin who seems to get picked despite not being in form or even of international standard, IMO. He's a bright guy who comes out well on camera and is clearly able to get his ideas across.
But, what do I know? I'm applying logic to the process, something MacNamara seems to shy away from.

| IMO it should be someone based in the UK (for the training camps/mid-season game(s) etc) and someone who will be playing in next years WC. That should only leave Lockers, Ellis and Roby as candidates, maybe Sam but I don't think he needs any extra burden on him. If we are going in to next year's WC with a 33 year Kevin Sinfield as our starting stand off then we are in trouble. If he's given the captaincy then this suggests to me that is what McNamara is thinking.
