Has he been "Linked", or is it just talk amongst fans?

Where has he been linked with the Wigan job? IL in his interviews on Wigan t.v and Radio Manchester never mentioned hid did he?

It's quite a tenuous thing, though, David.



McDermott has been linked with Wigan - by fan-chatter as far as I can see, not by anyone actually connected with the game (so not really 'linked' at all) - and you foresee a possible nightmare future where not only do Wigan get BM (because in your words it would be a typical lazy option - ?????), but Leeds get the 'slightly better' coach, David Furner.



Do you not also see a future where Shaun Edwards, Andy Farrell and Mike Ford all return to the Wigan fold as a dream ticket trio and take us to endless trophies as a result? Because there is no hard evidence that is going to happen either.

So what if it is fan-chatter? I am sure there are plenty of opinions already offered on this board and others about plenty of other "candidates" who have also not as yet had some press hack put their name forward. Have you been picking up anyone who may have suggested an appointment of say Betts or Chester would not go down well? As soon as McDermott's sacking was known both Wigan Facebook groups, Mikes board and Total RL had posters saying they did not want McDermott at Wigan. Go and chase them down if you are so bothered they voiced such an opinion off their own bat.



And by the way I never used the phrase "lazy option" so they are not my words but yours, thanks. What I said was: "Now Wigan have to compete with Leeds to sign a top coach. If they end up with Furner and we end up with McDermott I think various forums and facebook groups would explode. Not because Furner is viewed as a top coach in particular but what it would say about Wigan's inability and lack of ambition to attract anyone but the unemployed!"







There is no hard evidence for any of the numerous names mentioned by fans or press getting the Wigan job, so do you not realise just how daft that sentence is? It means because "there is no hard evidence" who our next coach is no one, including you, is seemingly allowed to discuss the matter.

Personally I’d be devastated if McDermott ended up at Wigan. I find hind him to be arrogant beyond belief and incredibly rude in his public dealings with people. Nobody can argue with his trophy haul but likewise, nobody can argue that when it’s hit the fan, he has no answers. Middle 8s must have really hurt the fans and on the brink of it again.

I have faith in IL to do the right thing for the club and if that happens to be BM, I’d be stunned.

My apologies. You didn't use those exact words, but you still used the McDermott 'link' to have another sly dig - on the basis of an error by Lenagan that hasn't even happened.

I don’t think it will be Brian McDermott, especially at this late stage. I’d imagine by now the process is down to the final candidates of at least 3.



If SW had announced on Monday he was leaving and this the same day I wouldn’t have been surprised to see press links for BM. Personally I’m 50/50 - you can’t argue he hasn’t achieved success at Leeds in his time there. Equally though he came in with a top top side to work with, and I do prefer to see English coaches in the game rather than the “safe” Aussie option.



On the flip side I’d want a total rehabilitation of the Wigan squad and playing style and I’m not sure BM would ultimately offer anything much different to SW.



The link was easy and obvious to make but I genuinely do not believe for one minute BM will be the next Wigan coach.

Give it up Dave, it's getting beyond ridiculous now.



There is no chance McDermott will be Wigans, next coach.
