Quote FearTheVee="FearTheVee"I don't follow.
The fact is that most of the players you quoted are English.
We can form make believe teams with Chris Joynt playing for Ireland, Cunningham playing for Wales, Richards playing for Ireland, Briers playing for Wales etc etc but the fact is it's all just one big cover up.'"
No more a make believe cover up than what is happening now.
At least under the old system a player declared himself available for a nation and stuck with them because they knew that if they were good enough, they would get picked for GB.
And if players of the calibre of Barrie Mac, Terry O and Harris played for Wales and Ireland then the standard across the home nation sides would be much, much higher than what it is currently.
Yeah I agree that it is a falsehood. But just imagine English born SL players with roots elsewhere deciding to play for Wales, Scotland etc, and then you would have players who would never be considered for England, getting invaluable international RL experience. This in turn would undoubtedly increase the standard of play in the Super league.
It has got to be much better this way, than having 17 aussies running out for the home nations, because no other Bug*er wants to play for them. It is always going to be a falsehood because people in Ireland or Scotland have no real interest in RL.
