Quote those were the days="those were the days"I dont think it would cost much to kick us out of our 'home' say it cost us 200k a year for us to rent the stadium so times 50 years would be around 10mill which is not enough for us a new home. I do not hope this happens as we will end up at leigh'"
Don't worry we won't be evicted even if this proposal is put through by the PL. I doubt that they would be able to instantly eject a club by changing the rules so Latics won't be given a "get rid or you're out" ultimatum. Once relegated they just wouldn't be allowed back in.
Whatever anyone thinks of Dave Whelan he is a savvy businessman and will realise now that
1) People in Wigan are not going to start supporting Latics in such numbers as to make them sustainable in the top flight without constantly treading water at the bottom end and having him dip into his pocket simply to keep going
2) Latics are not an appealing investment prospect for a rich person/consortium and so will not be taken off him by a rich benefactor
3) Once Latics succumb to the inevitable relegation crowds will plummet and so they will have a stadium that their income will not sustain
Once they are down he/they will need the income from Wigan RLFC to help them stave off financial meltdown. Whelan & Latics know they cannot survive in the stadium alone and so will not throw out their best option for future income in order to chase what is a pipe dream of being considered more than a 3rd tier club that just happens to have a team of players that is better than that level at the moment.
