sounds like a decent effort from a young team with a very light pack I hope Agar keeps Wood at halfback on Friday with Smith over John get Ellis and Wildie hooking with Alton at loose
Tony- I thought Motu Tony played very well today. He cleaned up at the back numerous times and made the hard yards. He went looking for work
Fox- Out of Position totally for Gelling's Try, plenty of enthusiasm though. You always know what you are goign to get with Foxy
Sykes- Solid if unspectacular
Mellars-
Where do I start with this clown. No idea of positioning, no ability to pass and no work ethic. A big lad who has the heart of ant.
Kay- I thought that this lad played well. I thought he was a HB but he played with confidence on the wing.
John- Probably the best I have seen him play. He looked lively and I think his partnership with Wood looks more promising than his partnership with T.Smith
Wood- Lively, injected pace into the attack. Deserved his try. Probably my MOM
Wilkes- Got through lots of work today in horrible conditions
Ellis If this lad does not get a place against Leeds I will be bemused. However, Agars decision to throw him into the action for his second stint with 20 remaining was surprising considering we looked a better side when he was on. His distribution was much better than Aitons, who I think is more suited to Lock.
Amor- Looked knackered, plays with his heart on his sleeve every game and tdoay was no different. However his attempt to smash Lauaki in the first tackle of the game could of broke his hand, yet again. We need him on the field and not in the stands.
Walshaw Is this lad only 19? His reseeding hairline is a massive concern. By his 21st birthday he will look like Kear. Looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights today, often out of position. He will definitely improve with SL game time but definately not the saviour people claim him to be on today's performance.
Mariano- Looked very very rusty. The cherry on top of the ice bun was when he broke through and instead of throwing the dummy and going over himself he chose to pass. The Mariano of last season would of smashed his way to the line. Please Agar play this lad more often or you will waste him.
Washbrook Solid defence, needed him today as the grafter!
Replacements:
Aiton- I am sure he thinks he is 6ft 2 and 18 stone because that lad takes it up 'route 1'. With Ellis on the field it was apparent that ball distribution was better. I am now in club that Aiton is a 13. He is a better loose than Washbrook and needs to play there.
Johnson- Tried hard, but only makes 4 yards every hit up.
Wildie- Apart from one dummy half knock on I think the lad was faultless. I think he has a good understanding with Kyle Wood and they combine pretty well together.
Trout- Not sure what position he played today. Centre, 2nd Row, Loose forward. He made plenty of decent runs and wasn't afraid to mix it up with the big Wigan forwards. Still a little concerned on his size.
We gifted Wigan the ball too many times in mid field,2 penalties on the 5 th tackle, knock ons on the first tackle .you can't give teams like Wigan easy yardage ,they scored off nearly every penalty.defence ,I thought was ok.Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't recall a Wigan try scored from their own half?
