I'm 66, and I think it says the geographical location from where your device is operating.

What's the point in this forum if not for protracted arguments. There's nothing better than being involved in an argument where it can take hours for the other party to respond. If you want up to date need then use Twitter or Facebook, if you want an in-depth argument on a really specific piece of information then here is the perfect place!

The IP doesn't say your physical address.

It just identifies the same computer/laptop 'cyber' location.



So don't worry it doesn't identify you or your location ....it just indicates if the same user had, let's say, an argument with someone and then created a whole other user ID to side with themselves in an argument or say something controversial hoping their main ID doesn't get banned.

I'm did, but it's because I forgot all of my details after not coming on for a while and couldn't be bothered trying to reset everything!

You need to change your ip search engine, when I used to run a biking forum 2005-2010 the IP searches we used could narrow down to a street (dependent on service provider) but I guess this day and age there are some privacy laws that forbid this

To be honest I don't even look unless we have someone new who is causing a problem.

I do regret my choice of name however as its made things a bit awkward since. All things considered though I think I've been fairly well treated on here.

You can't figure out someone's identity from just an IP address so there wouldn't really that much of an issue with anonymity.
