also - the birthplace of rl tag wears a bit then - that was in huddersfield, but not THIS club - as they reformed as sheffield didn't they? So THIS club started after they shafted Sheffield. Huddersfield might be the birthplace of RL, but the Giants are a mere tot, onl;y slightly older than us.

We were discussing this in the pub tonight. Basically Glover owns the name and the heritage and little else. Does Sheffield's Cup win in 1998 still belong to the new Eagles club or the Huddersfield club?

The original Huddersfield club no longer exists. It was dissolved and replaced by the merged entity even though they lost any new merged name not long after

We are still Wakefield Trinity all be it version 4 as far as I recall. As indeed are Bradford who are at least on version 2 as I believe are Leeds, HKR and Wigan to name but a few.



You were Huddersfield RLFC you are now Huddersfield and SHEFFIELD Giants. The clue is in BOLD. There can be no argument that in every respect you are a new club, if you don't want to be and wish to revert give the million pounds back. Same applies to Hull just to give some balance.

Wouldn't disagree on purely financial terms but it's hardly something to gloat or laugh about is it. A broken club, a broken man in Ted (yes amazing he's a human being), broken team, broken careers, unpaid bills and very nearly broken hearts on here. Yes Glover has done a great job since taking over but a lot of people paid a high price to give him that chance - not his fault obviously.

mmmm we paid off sheffields debts £565,000 never got the balance of the money for the Keith Senior transfer £180,000, had to hire Brammall Lane to play in Sheffield and when we still got relegated had to give Martin Gleeson to Saints for nowt market value at the time £150,000 at least, Chris Bridge to Bradford market value at least £50,000 etc etc.... so don't go saying how we gained from this.... the RFL didn't want Sheffield to be seen to be going bust... I woulda merged with Gateshead a lá Hull every time it was a far better deal than we got..... We didn't need Sheffield the RFL dangled a carrot and we took it... we shoulda gone down and come straight back up as we did later... but don't hit us about Ken D when you now have Glover 'the saviour' because we have already been there and like all clubs with these guys Davey, Lenagan, Moran, Hetherington Alf Davies etc etc Hull with Pearson eventually someone will have to step in.....

All that may be true but you are still Huddersfield and Sheffield Giants and have little to do with the old Fartown based Huddersfield RLFC.

it's exactly this sort of post that wazzes me off with the fart owners - in hindsight, what you are saying is that the support and process by which you were meant to strengthen wasn't neccessarily a good thing or something that you wanted to do -hmmmm, wait a minute - maybe that's what wildcat supporters are feeling about the last 12 months. Come back in 3 years and maybe we'll tell you how we feel about the whole thing in hindsight.
