Because Steff is a very good young British half with potential to play International rugby and is ready for Sl now? Southernwood is still raw is not ready and could play at 7 to partner a good young Brit at 6. Long term partnership and stability sorted.

I have no connections to the RFL never have, played a few years as a junior at Trin and did a bit of coaching over the last 5/6 years at a few different clubs no longer anyinvolvement with the pro game at all as of the end of last season.
