I think you need to consider the whole picture (or what we know of it) before casting aspertions at the club as being a bad employer. There have been a few problems arising due to the late decision to be kept in SL, the delay in getting a new coach on board and the necessity to get some players before the well dried up. No-one has been signed who wasn't intended to feature at the time, but if the coach decides he has a different target or tactic, or if circumstances alter in some way, then the club must and will deal with that in the best manner it can at that time. I don't envy them in that respect!

Hmm - it's all a bit tenuous for me.
Pre-season has only just started, there's still room for a bit more player movement and given that RA is very aware of the task ahead, I can't imagine that he's making decisions for any reason other than fielding the most competitive squad possible for next season. If it doesn't make sense now, I'm sure it will later when all the ducks are in a row.
Meanwhile, I'll be disappointed that we won't see if Tongia could deliver on his early promise, but it's hardly the end of the world.

You are right, but the point boyem makes is still a valid one, in that we dont wish to be viewed as a club that rips up contracts and dumps on players.
The facts will out in the end, but at the moment we appear to have two players who for one reason or another we are trying to brush under the carpet.
Naturally we are all keen to find out what's going on.

I don't envy them at all and by all accounts theres has been some 'interesting' conversations between the movers and shakers over how to balance out what we have and what the coach wants. I'm not claiming the clubs are bad employers, providing things are done correctly then fine, its not a problem. But its a risky business and getting it right and maintaining the clubs reputation is tricky and could make it more difficult than it would have been down the track. And lets be honest had Tongia been here next season everyone would have been more than happy with that. Is that one worth the risk? If we are working to a ten year plan then its not just about what happens next season, we need to look further ahead than that. Good luck to RA as he needs to justify all these decision with results on the field and we need him to get it right. If we are successful then good on him, he got it right. If not then he'll fall on his sword. Time will tell.

As opposed to a club that is dumped on by players; what goes around comes around, dog eat dog, looking after No1 etc. etc. etc.

In an ideal world of course nobody would be dumping on anyone else (its all gone a bit specialist german porn all of a sudden!!!).
However i do think that the club should always act with honour, even if its employees and other clubs dont, thats me on my high horse!!
If these players are signed (it would appear by JE?) and no longer part of the plans (of RA), as with Obst and Mathers (at other clubs), they do not have to go and can play hard ball until they get a deal that suits them, it all starts to get a bit naughty, and thats a shame.
As much as i dont want to see the reputation of the club harmed, it may put to bed the "Agar was always coming" question.

| There's far too much sentimentality amongst some fans when it comes to player negotiations and the immediate assumption when someone moves on that they've been 'dumped on' is plain silly; all of these lads have agents and you can bet your bottom dollar that when a player under contract leaves the club, his agent has made damn sure that it's on terms that are favourable to his client.
For a long time, we were the club that players only came to after they'd exhausted all other avenues; the recruitment we've made for next season shows that the new regime has already dispelled some of that perception and I'm sure that will only get better. One thing that RA can demonstrate a proven track record of is attracting quality signings and he appears to be a coach that players like and respect.
Now - can we please get over Ryan Tongia?

I am led to believe that Agar sees Aiton as being the main linchpin for next season, and IF we do get him, then we will just have to wait and see if he is right (along with ALL the new signings TBF) .......however, assuming Tongia IS now on quota, I would hope that if Aiton does not come, that we sign Tongia instead. Yes, we have only seen very little of him, but the bits that we have seen contained moments of pure genius (admittedly not all the time), but the guy has the x-factor, which is a very rare thing, and I am sure with the right coaching he could soon be a world class player, and to quote several comments above, could very easily come back to haunt us !!!!!
