| Quote Khlav Kalash="Khlav Kalash"Technically he may be the superior player, but will he be a better player for Trinity? One guy is on a month by month rolling contract trying to prove his worth to the club, the other got homesick in New Zealand.

Yes he will be better for us because he will simply be a better player even if he is homesick - it's sad but true, and frankly with P&R there is no longer the chance to prove the theory wrong.
P&R is the problem not Agar - as I keep saying it's an utter disaster waiting to happen.

He wont be much good if five games into the season he wants out.
Trinity still had a shed load of imports without P&R, although I agree with your point about it likely to get worse because of its reintroduction.

No one wants us to be a Wakefield based side more than me. But I also enjoy being a SL club, seeing Wakefield at the top tier of our sport and watching the best players around - for and against, especially when we send them home with a bloody nose!
The reality is that the majority of our leading players over the past 15 years gave been overseas. Many of them have bonded tightly with our club and look with great appreciation on their time with us. Players like Domic and Solomona came here with reputations, but many more have made their names with us. We all have soft spots for JD, BJ and Sam, and none of them came here as stars.
I love the romantic element that you are so passionate about, and wouldn't want you to move away from that one iota, but needs must and, for now at least, we must back the judges at the club to get the most bang for our buck.
Seijka comes with decent raps and, given his wonder kid background, he could just be waiting the right opportunity to explode onto the RL world. I hope it's with us!

Probably will be a better player but that is because they use the franchise system correctly in Oz.
They promote youth to put pressure on established players whose contracts are up for renewal and rather than have one outstanding player on a massive wedge, they have 2, 3 possibly 4 good junior products for the same money.
Penrith have done this this season, with pretty good results, Wests have also but not as successfullly.
If Siejka is so talented, why has he had 3 clubs at such a young age and not been picked up again?
I'm hoping to be wrong if we do sign him and he does settle in but it's a big risk, maybe Godinet has given some inside info on him?

I know all this and you're right - so why as the tree was just starting to fruit do we move back to P&R.
I know from years of experience that we now can't afford to give kids the chance they deserve - we now have to grind out and win at least 6 games in the first third of the season before we can even begin to look to the future and that's just for that season.
For any more youngster to get a chance at Trinity in the next few years they will either have to be exceptionally good or by that time we will be at NM with a rich benefactor and time to plan. For now we are back to the mongrel spirit and in the past it's the Aussies/Kiwis who have provided a large part of that

Could be down to excitement within the league.
The top half have glory to play for.
The bottom half have survival to play for.
Scant regard for the development of the game if it means a bit more excitement.
Forget about coming anywhere near the Aussies and Kiwis ever!
Twenty years ago GB were the second best side in the world, the Kiwis were catching us up.
Why was this? Probably because most of the Kiwi players were starting to get picked up by the NRL, now after the majority of their players play in the NRL, there is not much between Oz and NZ, with England a very poor 3rd.

| I too would love to see a team of local lads handing the big boys their backsides on a regular basis but it isn't going to happen anytime soon whether we have franchising or P&R.
Players have short career, they or their agent will chase the brass and I don't blame them, if my body was taking the hammering there's does every week, I'd want paying well.
On the subject of Siejka, my Aussie spy tells me he's and excellent player and that he's never heard of Godinet. Just his opinion I know, but until either of them lace on the boots and put the RW&B on we won't know. Let's hope both rip it up for us this year.

I know I have a reputation of bagging players but I only say it how I see it. I watched young Golding closely on boxing day. His passing at times was shocking, some of his kicking was also of a poor standard and he doesn't have the pace or zip that I like to see from an half back. His one real gift is place kicking but unfortunately for him we have plenty who can do that.
I think if he did not have his fathers name he would not have got as far as he has done.
My opinion means nothing, but Agars must be respected and that's why he has not yet got a contract ,because he has failed so far to show he is worth one. Don't forget he came through the ranks at warrington and they also believed he was not going to make the standard they required.
Having said all that he could have a blinder at Fev and earn himself a deal, so its all in his hands and in all fairness we are giving him a chance.

After World Cup final there is a big gap between Australia & New Zealand.

Funnily enough I'm just reading Mike Rylance's excellent book and came across this excerpt from 1914;
[iI think it would be better for all clubs if they paid more attention to local players instead of devoting their attention to men such a long distance from home.[/i
This was a club official's response to criticism leveled at Trinity for their policy of fielding a team broadly made up of players from Wakefield as opposed to the likes of Huddersfield and Hull, who incidentally Wakefield lost to in the final of that year, who had players from Australia and New Zealand turning out for them.

NZ were very disappointing in the final and had an off day.
Even on that performance they would have probably beaten England.
The Kiwi players still have the benefit of playing in the best comp in the world, so can improve and progress.
When you play the World Cup in your own backyard you would expect to get to the final if you are England.
Unfortunately we struggle to beat and sometimes don't beat a cobbled together Exiles team.
