Full time 38-10 little dissapointed with second half score 10-10, a lot of changes made though..

Thought Reece Lyne and Brad Singleton played well, promising indeed. However Mathers looked not interested and made mistakes that would of killed us in a league game.

They put the cue away in the second half I thought. Opposition accepted, the Lyne/Cockayne partnership looked promising in the first half, thought Lee Smith would be a shoo in for centre this season but Reece Lyne seems to be making a big pitch for a starting spot, and being one of Agar's up and comers at Hull he might be in with a chance if he keeps performing like that.

Thought we looked good in first half, given some space we were ripping Fev in half, Cockayne looked quickest player on the pitch, defo him and Lyne partnership looked good, Vince Mellars has certainly filled out a bit. 2nd half was just experimenting, spoilt by a ref who was out of his depth in a friendly

Totally agree FT, he turned the game into a farce.

3 times Fev kicked following a knock on and the play was brought back to the point where the ball was kicked.

I've not heard of that rule change and if it has been brought in, it is utterley pointless.

Also, penalties given 3 times for not playing the ball correctly, which is more than you will see for the whole season.



Ali looked class, as did Smith and Lyne and Cockayne were both excellent.

Tbf Mathers was also good with the exception of 1 poor knock on in the 2nd half.

Honourable mentions for Singleton and thought Trout went well also.



As for the ref, I have no idea why he was meddling with the advantage rule but at least he was consistent about it. If it is a rule trial, it gets a resounding no from me as it breaks up the flow of the game too much, although I think it could benefit us with the speed we have in the backline if it were implemented.



As for the PTB penalties, it's obviously this years pet rule - will take a few games to get into, but I think it's good for the game that we ensure the ball is played correctly.

Apparently Hudds were penalised 5 times Friday night for incorrect play the balls.

Is that not one of the rule changes trialled on Boxing Day? I didn't interpret any of the rule changes on the press release as allowing it, but from Agar's (and others') comments afterwards about Cowling kicking through for the Mathers try that's one of the new rules - if one team knocks on then the other team essentially have a "free play" and can try anything, as play will be brought back for a scrum if no advantage is found. Sounds bonkers to me (and I'm still not sure I've understood it correctly!)
