I'm not suggesting Rankin is anything special, just remembering your criticism of his signing with reference to Keating, who has turned out (as many said he would) as just as ordinary (at best) but probably a good chunk more expensive.



The best thing Rovers could do with him next year IMO is to use him as Hodgson's replacement and try find another half (or two).

Keating has always been a hooker, and a support player. That's were Rovers should deploy him

Just being an NRL Grand finalist does not automatically make you a good player and Rankin has far more about his game than Keating.

Keating has to be one of the worst halves I've ever seen. They might as well stick a 7 on Rufus Robbin's back, I'm sure he (or she?) would be no worse.

Saints are paying big money for an average player in Burns, yes he tries hard but he is very limited and not naturally talented.

Personally, I don't think either are good enough for a half decent SL team but signing a player who has played a decent number of NRL games is less of a risk than signing an unknown like rankin. I disagree that he's average. He was clearly shagged last night and should have been brought off, but he's a fantastic 100% competitor and has a skillset that would be better showcased behind a more dominant pack. He's not going unless Rovers sign an upgrade anyway.

I agree. Fantastic competitor. 28 nil down with 2 minutes to go and he tried to kick a 40-20. We battered the hell out of him all night though and it's obvious he isn't popular with our players

Burns is a good player & competitor, but he can be distracted & taken off his game plan very easy, & constantly moans to the ref about what the opposition are doing, when he is one of the worst for niggling etc...will saints be able to stop him from going off his game plan?
