the same issues as those that have gone before, you have to run the gauntlet of the chav triangle (if the bars are still there), that end of Town was always dire when I went out in Hull.

I think that will be the biggest problem it will have, there's a Tokyo in Huddersfield which is popular but it's got bars all around it. With the one in Hull it's a fair walk from the Old Town and there aren't really that many other bars in town.

Been in the Tokyo bar in Lincoln and York to see bands. I hope the Hull version is as good, they certainly seem to attract some top acts.

| Been to the Tokyo in Bradford which is OK (for Bradford!). Need some pre-bars though otherwise it'll die on its arris. New town and Anlaby Road aren't exactly booming with them, so they really need to sort that out before opening.

if you think about what Hull has lost in terms of its nightlife it's significant, the majority of Bond Street, most of Anlaby Road, LA's and the Marina area etc.

Me and the wife went into the city centre on a Friday night for the Heritage Weekend. We walked back towards the station at 12.o.clock and it was shut! Not even a taxi. The city centre was absolutely dead, on a Friday night that takes some believing.

That's the thing though, Princess Ave would probably have been busy, there's a finite number of people with the cash and desire to go out on a weekend, when I first started going out it was all around the Old Town and Marina, Romeo's was still around, Trogg Bar had closed along with Bali Hai in the preceeding years, then we progressed towards Bond Street/LA's, then it was back to Old Town when Waterfront got it's act together, along came Circus Circus/Heaven & Hell etc. What is there now, Pozition, which is like being in a crap disco on a cross channel ferry (complete with the smell of vomit), Welly, Sugar Mill, not much else?
The only place that has never changed is The Adelphi.

I used to love going to 'The Tower' as a kid, saw some real classics there, Bond as you mentioned, Battle of Britain, The Herbie Movies etc... Also used to frequent The Cecil, Criterion and Dorchester, don't think I ever set foot in The Regent 'cos it was usually shoing 'X' Rated films. I know they were flea pits but much more fun to visit then the souless multiplexes you get now.
