| Quote Jake the Peg="Jake the Peg"I disagree with your last point. I think we could bring someone in to work on our attack and improve pretty quickly. We're not far away from being very competitive in this league and a small improvement on attack would make all the difference'"
Totally agree.
Radford isn't the complete clueless idiot I thought he was, probably around this time last year. Our defence is decent and he's getting an awful lot of effort out of the lads. We make good yards and regularly get the better of the field position to kill teams off.
Unfortunately, as far as our attack goes, he is a clueless idiot. I'd like to see someone brought in on the coaching staff specifically to work with the attack. I'd also like to see our players be a little bit smarter too.

Sa (though from what I've seen that's debatable) Sneyd, Ellis and Watts were the only ones not playing that should have been in the starting/strongest 17 by rights.
Saints had 2 teenagers making debut, one of them 17.
They had missing; Burns, Walsh, Lomax, Wilkin, Vea and Percival, possibly you could include Arm waver (Wellens) as he usually gets a bench spot.
If you put the two strongest teams out there, Saints would win every single time.'"
You see Bumpy, it's things like this which make it pretty difficult for people to care about your opinion. If your arguments aren't balanced, nobody will give a damn.
You're looking at players out for both teams, yet only mention four for Hull FC as they "should be in the 17 by rights". That game we had seven out; Sneyd, Ellis, Watts, Yeaman, Sa, Whiting & Green out. The same number as Saints.

| In the Saints game it wasn't so much the players they had out as the turnaround.
We played in a fairly slow, dour game on Thursday. They played in a brutal game on the Friday. When you are backing up so quickly that extra day is a big factor. It's not a case of making up excuses why we won, it's being realistic. It's a game we should have won, and we did. So whilst it's a tick in the box it's nothing to crow about. The same goes for Widnes and Sheffield.
If we beat Huddersfield and Salford and start to show a bit more creative threat, then I will give some credit. At the moment we have scraped some results but shown no sign of our performances improving. I hope I'm wrong but I think Hudderfield's defence will be too organised for us and we'll lose yet another tight low scoring game. Even if Sneyd is back I just don't see where our points are coming from.

| We desperately desperately need somebody to come in and sort our (lack of) attack out.
Look at the tries we score - intercepts from the flying pig and barges over from short range. Just occasionally we will get a great solo effort (Rankin and Shaul i'm looking at you) but how often do we see a breathtaking team move with lots of pairs of fast hands and dummy runners?
And why oh why (like yesterday) do we persevere with a chip on the last tackle to what looks like the best catcher on the field? The one who also has a great step and makes yards and yards on their return?

| Agree with the above, Surely Radford and AP can see what we are seeing, I don't think we are far away from being a really good side and a couple of improvements to our basic play would make a massive difference. It would really benefit Radford if he brought someone in to help him keep his job. There must be plenty of people that would come here from England or the NRL who could improve our attack.
Watching the Leigh game on Saturday, I was really jealous of their attaching structures and plays.

Spot on Dave.
The attack coach should've been in situ pre-season, I did hear we approached Cooke & Monaghan, but both failed to materialise....
The likes of Wigan,Saints,Warrington & Huddersfield & Castleford have Deacon,Long,Briers,Thorman,Orr & Sheridan, as ex HB's, as their Attack coaches.
At this time of the season, it would be not easy to appoint anyone,
however (not everyone's cup of tea) I have seen Bobbie Goulding would be willing to coach our attack, he said "Basically, its a lot of repetitive catch & pass drills, but importantly it has to be coached under duress and at speed"
Hutchie also indicated Radford/Last, removed the idea of Gentle, who trained the players under duress in attack, this is why we are getting closed down so quickly.
Our defence is pretty solid, with a different approach in attack preperation,we could go a long way this season..

| Radders has got the players giving their all every game. In defence despite at times looking disorganised they scramble and are desperate to keep teams out. Our on the line defence is at times amazing but it has to be because we get busted by the better teams further up field. It's a wonder they have any energy left at times. When fatigue does kick in then we're vulnerable and players make mistakes. As others have said maybe we'll start to get some organisation and cohesion in place but why that should suddenly happen is difficult to see unless something changes in the coaching methods or personnel.

IF we stretched the opposition in defence more, i.e the opposition
would be more fatigued, but if we persevere with one man barges,
the opposition would be less fatigued,& their confidence would increase
due to a lack of pressure.

We won but let's not kid ourselves, aside from the odd flashes of individual excellence we are disorganised in attack at best, luckily for us we have had a pretty good defence so far this year (& well done to the team/coach for that). Leeds/KR aside we've kept things tight but as mentioned upthread we aren't winning the tight games more than we are losing and just don't look capable of scoring against well organised defences that often unless a bit of luck comes our way. Sure 'lucky' tries apply to everyone but we are poor in attack compared to most other clubs.
That said if we win every game until the end of the season then being poop in attack, relying on individual brilliance, 'lucky' tries & a good defence who am I to criticise?
'"
It's telling that although you credit the team/coach on the decent defence you put it down to luck, and when we score against good sides it's also down to luck.

could not agree with your comments more
The problem is if you have a despot in charge that guards everything so steadfastly as it seems that situation will not even be a passing thought, because LR would see that as an admission of failure not and admission of all help is welcome help as it should be, any organization or business worth its weight in salt should always be looking for the "next big thing" who can pop up and help its admin, or streamline its output but lee simply is not the transparent type is he, he hides his cards carefully so we can forget additional help , I hope i am wrong but so far we have had no suggestion that anyone is even being considered apart from rumour..
I would love to get Cooke or similar on the team and cream his knowledge and experience but it simply isnt going to happen ...
150 years of history celebrations looking decidedly average
we lack creativity and that is sad given the players we have in the squad, you know its bad when Yeaman is noted as a ball player ha ha
Only kidding of course but we do need someone to step up and start pushing us around the pitch again ala Hudds first game but we just seem to be a team living on apathy and that old FC "let someone else do it" attitude again
we have class all over the team but no glue to pull that fabric together , were 1 yard away from being a really good side,

We did that against Rovers time and again. A stupid chip over, straight to Manky-tomato or Kelly. Never worked once.
Rankin might be a good fullback, but he's a dreadful halfback. I've said it before, but if he's got one eye on going home, I see no point in him being part of future plans. I'd start putting HTW or Reece Dean on the fast-track.

i know what you mean but just because he is going we cant dismiss the fact he is a super player in broken play and we need all the speed we can muster right now
