Fanny is the old American word for bum. As in the complete backside - cheeks and all, not the front bum. And according to most music written around that time, they tended to be fat.

Loved Fanny and Dick in "The Magic Faraway Tree" as a kid. Became mentally scarred as I grew up and realised the evil connotations modern society put on Enid's innocent characters. Aunt Fanny was another, and cousin Dick, of course. Poor Enid. Or perhaps she just liked Fannies and Dicks.
