Do they get paid for it? Then they can afford a pass, can't they.

| It's good to know that stereotyping is alive and well.
Why should we punish people who want to better themselves?

As is said earlier in the thread, if people tried to better themselves they wouldn't have to work that many hours to make ends meet.
I don't see the problem in subsidizing students £40-60 because they choose to go on to further education to better themselves instead of going straight into work. These are potentially our future Doctor's, surgeons, nurses, accountants, Solicitors etc.

How's that a contradiction?
There's a difference between making ends meet and bettering yourself.

That is complete bollox. There are people with quals as long as your arms working in industries that they shouldnt be in , just because of the way the whole jobs market works and many other factors. Some people come out of work and have to grab any job they can, then get stuck on the treadmill and can never find a way off.
You then also get a whole bunch of graduates who get the degrees but cant handle the jobs they go into.
And what percentage of grads go into the health sector?? probably a very low one

So a 'family man' who works full time plus and ends up with similar disposable income to a student.
Who deserves the subsidy?

What disposable income would a student have? Especially now the government have abolished the Educational Maintenance Allowance.

Don't disagree with anything there, really. But that's not what this is about, this is about a student getting a £40-60 subsidy on a season pass. The student has to be studying full time which is about 20 hours I think. You also can't group all students together either, some have far differing personal lives.
