Did a walk on Google Earth last night and you're absolutely right, the Appleton Arms it was. Sad to hear of it's demise.

Was a hole really though. It was popular amongst 15 and 16-year-olds (when I happened to be 15,16) and when they eventually turned the kids away, they lost a lot of trade.

The appo was an institution to youth boozers! Shame really had potential to be a decent little ale house but last owners didn't seem majorly fussed about it and prices were rather high considering about 300 yards from Weatherspoons.

i too was one of the appo crew around the ages of 17-18

back when it had its first major 'refurb' around 1999.
