Some of the refs who have improved with experience are good adverts for sticking with the younger ones who are struggling at times. And tbf Thaler is among those who have improved significantly, imo.

Thaler is now an excellent official and Child is not too far behind.



It is frustrating with a lot of new referees but they have to go through the learning curve and Rugby League is not an easy game to officiate. For a Hull derby Thaler is the best choice.

Yeah, I used to used to dread getting Thaler or Child, but credit to them. Hopefully we’ll be saying the same about the newer ones in the not too distant.



If Child has won me over, there’s no reason why Mikalauskas shouldn’t get the Grand Final one day!

For a game like the derby you need a ref who is going to work with the players and not get carried away if things start to get a bit heated. You need to know when to give a bit of leeway but also where the line is. Thaler has seen it all before and is probably the best man for the job.

Which is a sad indication of how rubbish the officials are. Thaler is blumin useless, I hope the best team wins., be that FC or KR, (obviously I want it to be FC, but I want a decent game)

Aye.. After being fairly certain FC would win earlier in week I'm starting to get that hopeful feeling we will go there and do a job. Pretty typical in Derby build up and will probably flip flop a few time between now and KO. Certainly not going to bet heavily on the game.Just Linnett 1st try and Tomkins last try for a bit of fun at big odds.

Looking at FC squad for Fri if there isn't a switcheroo and Shaul doesn't replace Wynne then we must pepper him with high balls.For all he's done well it's a big ask for him so early in career,also Logan isn't specialist winger so those 2 need peppering until crack. Fairamo spilt a few last time out also so we may get some joy from bombing the back 3? Sounds easy in theory but often doesn't go to plan.
