I guess that most of you on this forum feel exactly like we, the Board of Directors do, in that not only did we not get a franchise, but that at least one team who's complete disregard of the "rules" set out by the RFL some three years ago, seems to have not mattered a jot to the powers that be at the RFL.
Halifax RLFC and to a large extent Calderdale Council took those "rules" as being important. Together with FC Halifax, we all have helped build a stadium in Halifax which not only meets those apparant RFL "rules" but in my view at least is a better facility than a number in Super League. Indeed the comments from those Super League teams who have played here this season support that view.
We told the RFL as part of our bid, that we were going to run our Club within the budgets we had, or that we might aspire to if we were given a franchise, and that we thought it financially imprudent to suggest that we could bring in a sugar daddy millionaire to inflate our financial standing(as some Clubs have done to the extent that a number of Club financial failures can be attributed to that one man sponsor having financial difficulties himself). For the last few years we have been running our Club to at least break even.
I have seen on TV tonight that Ralph Rimmer suggested that he had already spoken to Tony Abbott one of our Directors, who is currently out of the country on holiday. He did make such a short call. . . I dont think I can say just yet the supposed reason he gave why we were unsuccesful, but to say that I'm personally angry is an understatement
For a senior person at the RFL to say that our bid wasn't as good as some Clubs who bids dont seem to have even met the so called "rules" is not good enough
That we have spent the last three years aspiring to something that has been dismissed in this way is disappointing, not just for our Club but for any other Championship team who might have similar aspirations
Michael Steele our Chairman has put a statement on the Club's web site at
www.halifaxrlfc.co.uk/article.php?id=5473
I suggest its worth reading
Our Club has four Directors none of us are millionaires as perhaps the RFL might prefer, but we all work for nothing, indeed it obviously costs us all a good deal of money to help run the Club. On days like these I have to say that putting the bid together cost a good deal of time effort and money and it seems to me as if it was all a complete waste of those three resources.
Its difficult right now to believe that I personally would want to go through this exercise again in three years and to be honest its a view that seems shared by several other Championship teams' officials, judging by the phone calls we have received today.
However I am a Halifax fan first and foremost. so it is disappointing to read on other forums that many of our fans have now said they will stop supporting Fax as a gesture to the RFL.
I'd rather show the RFL a different gesture, by winning the Grand Final! and just letting them see what they've missed by this decision.
So disappointed as we all are, hopefully tomorrow we can think again, get behind the team, and lets not make the RFLs decision seem justified

| Great post Mr. Riley, and thanks for all your efforts with the bid.
To say I'm disillusioned right now with rugby league is an massive understatement, but I'll never give up on Halifax.
I firmly believe the the franchising system is a good thing for rugby league. However the problem lies in those making the decisions on who should get a license and who shouldn't.
Sad day for rugby league today.
C'mon Fax.

| fantastic Mike, i aplaud you.
Real fans of Halifax know just how much time, effort and money you guys put into our club. and from speaking to you on just afew occasions, i have left the conversation deeply touched at how much the club means to you personally. Its not just two fingers to Halifax, like you say this must have really shaken up the already plummiting opion of many below SL clubs!
i dont for one minute think Fax fans will stop supporting the team, but it is difficult to see where progression is going to come from, we as a club do everything we can....jump through hoops, quite clearly have a better case than some who have been awarded licences, and still no reward.
4 of my friends and i have purchased tickkets for the RFLs 3 'main events' this autumn, and i am gutted i have given them a penny! i wish i could give them back and give Halifax the £45!

| Good post Mike and thank you.
I am sure that some of the fans have said they will stop supporting as a "knee jerk" reaction. I hope that they do come to their senses and see that the only way to survive and make it even more difficult for the RFL is to keep supporting their club. If they decide to never attend any other RL events then that is up to them, but they SHOULD continue to support their own club.
I guess the players will also be as gutted as we and yourselves are, and I hope they vent their frustrations on the pitch on Saturday night with a performance worthy of Halifax RLFC.
It is a difficult job for the board now to keep the fans coming, to what seems to be a dead league, but it is also important that the board dont give up and continue their already good work, starting with the replacement of the Coach.....

| The club cant take legal action but a group of fans can Im sure. Does anybody have some time to head it? I would happily contribute small amount of money to fees and I am sure many others will but I have barely any spare time to organise anything.

| What we need is a former player who is a solicitor to look into this for us ...... please Olly ......
There is no chance as our budget could not cope with the budget with the RFL - but if we had someone who could help us meet all the Court Deadlines etc I am sure there would be others who could dredge up loads of contradictory annoucements from the RFL with video footage to support such a case !!!!!
I am sure there was a sports legal expert on the so called independent panel though ....

this is true, and this is what we have to grip onto, after all that hard work by the club, players and fans, it doesnt really seem a fair trade does it.
we were screwed!

| I won't stop supporting Halifax because of this, that'd be daft. But if, as is widely rumoured, the Championship's TV rights are to be sold off to Premier Sports, I will not carry on with my Sky Sports subscription for the Super League.
The money you and the rest of the directors put in to the club is very much appreciated by the clubs supporters, and I for one would rather you spent that money in other areas of the club rather than playing the RFL's ridiculous games in 3 years times. I hope it doesn't get you guys down too much and that we bounce back to win the Grand Final and carry on being the Championships most successful club with an Under 23's squad to match!
