I don't think he is anything more than a solid pro. Tonight though I think Powell is the problem. He looks tired and we need some bodies back to give him a rest. Powell's distribution has been poor often putting Smith in a difficult situation as he's not getting good ball.

Smith needs to step up and take control and not go missing Wigan need a leader not someone who is playing hide and seek. The only reason he has ever been an international is because he wears a Wigan shirt now it's time he started playing like a Wigan player

Bateman was the reason we won tonight. Smith had a good last 15 but we should have had that game closed out long before that given the field position we had.

I have to hand it to Smith. I was fuming with his first half performance but he really got it together after the break. We still need far more from him and he can't control a game for his life at the moment without those pivots of Tomkins, Williams and Lockers round him but he showed plenty of guts to dig it out.



He's crying out to fade back in to the background when those lads are back and to get back to just doing the basics without any heat on him. I suppose a Wigan scrum half should produce more but he plays within his limits around better players and completes a solid job.
