| Quote altofts wildcat="altofts wildcat"Firstly I dont think Walshaw has the speed to play centre but I do think he could make a decent 2nd rower.
As for that academy team, yes we probably should have had more players come through but its not as if they have gone on to rip it up at other places. Maybe they were a better team rather than individuals whereas other clubs had better individuals than teams?'"
Agree walshaw lacks any real speed.
I think the lads missed out on being developed/coached properly and that's why they've fallen away.

I know I've said this before and I apologise for being repetitive.
When Gary Thornton was coaching the kids at Cas he was very open about what his role was. It was all very nice for the junior teams to win games, but he was there to develop juniors into SL standard players. He said some clubs (no names) were hell bent on winning kids cups, but the real victory was seeing individuals go on to have successful careers. When you look at the two team sheets of Cas and wakey (with the benefit of hindsight) from that season you could argue that one set up was trying to win games and one set up trying to produce SL players.
I'm not saying this to get into an argument with anyone, but I would be interested to hear the thoughts of mopsey &/or try scorer on this as it would seem they were there at the time. Also, can I ask whatever happened to Cain Southernwood? In my opinion he is the best junior player I've ever seen and cannot for the life of me understand why he isn't doing better in the game. Is he proof that the best juniors don't always make the best SL players?

| Im sure Alex Walmsley, Greg Johnson don't think that of JK. We have some very fickle fans. 5th place under JK, avoided relegation 5 wins from 7 games and then avoided been bottom with the team we had. Kieren Hyde at half back. Bet under JK Mariano wouldn't have been pushed out to Cas. Walshaw speed could improve he won't be anything at 2nd row.

| This is an old chestnut that keeps turning up for a start I don't think Gary Thornton was at cas at that time it was pell through watching junior rugby a lot at that time I knew and had seen many of the players from both sides in previous action. and I can assure you nobody told the cas players it doesn't matter if you lose your being developed for super league what anybody says mate cas played their strongest team players coach and club wanted to win the same rubbish claim as been made by Wigan fans .Cas and Wigan arnt teams that go into any game with ulteria motives they want to win and to say owt else is a load of codswallop.

We did a swap deal where we got Keiran Hyde and Cain went to Bradford. He played a couple of games for them and is now playing for Whitehaven.
Not sure why he hasn't made it because like you said he was one of the most talented juniors around. He is still only young so he may still have a chance to make it back into SL.

You're either missing my point or I haven't articulated myself properly. I'm not saying GT or anyone else at Cas said to juniors "don't try" I'm asking whether coaching teams at different clubs do things differently and have different aims. It was a genuine question as I'm am genuinely interested in why some juniors don't kick on and others do. I've watched a decent number of junior RL games and I think we're still lagging behind the Aussies in several departments, but in the main these could easily be fixed if coaches of younger players focused on the more basic and fundamental things like ball skills, fitness and strength at an early age rather than trying to simply win games.

i coached the team with tony drury our aim was to get them players to the highest standard as possible we did that. we had players whos skill levels were poor we focused on this we focused on game related stuff in training and to a extent we went away from the robot kear stuff and tried to develop players and keep their natural talent in them. that team played great rugby they would of run through walls for each other. now the problem started when they came out of the accademy they were left far too long and not blooded. they should of been given a taste then taken out again and drip fed in and out. this area is massive for talent the kids in wakefield cas fev are as good as kids at wigan or saints at 16 so theres something seriously going wrong. does the wakefield side now contain any wakey lads, stanley lads, normy lads, not many at all its pathetic to be honest. the cas side does but thats also falling milner and owen are wakey lads, thomson gone arundel gone, so how many cas lads are they.
theres a massive problem in this area theres tonnes of talent and loads of scouts. bradford, wigan leeds salford warrington hull aswell as the local clubs. now looking at the wakefield and cas sides would you get coached right or trust the clubs to improve you and give you a CHANCE.
rivalry aside this area and sl need a strong wakefield cas and fev, we need the revenue and we need the derby games for added interest, the game is on its knees and people need to stop kicking each other.

Thanks for the insight mopsey. Based on what you've put there I think we'd agree on quite a bit. If you ever fancying coming darn't lane I wouldn't hold your "past" allegiances against you!
To take up your point about skills. It frustrates the life of me when watching RL (all clubs) just how poor the passing from dummy half is. There's no excuse for professional RL players to not pick out a good pass 99% of the time from that position, in my opinion. Do you see this as a failing by amateur coaching at a young level? What could we do as a sport to improve it?

| Not missing your point at all your some teams no names told me your reference was to wake field,Gary Thornton had a job at BV coaching u21s he soon left. when they took a few hammering so winning must have meant something to him. This flippant talk about kids cups really annoys folk who at the time in some cases like mopsey involved in the coaching and others who watch our academy and in that particular year saw the serious way clubs took that u18sleague they all wanted to win it .Don't underestimate what the Wakefield side a heaved that season to finish top of the league and also win the grand final, every team in super league except Catalan was involved and if it was Wigan or Leeds who had done this nobody would try and punch holes in their acheivment

A lot of what you are saying is true, but your credibility is ruined for me until you come clean and stop the pretence that you and Mopsey are not the same person - you are!
You're quick to question the moral fibre of players and fans alike so I'm challenging you to show some integrity and come clean.
Thanks
