Just been looking at the stats on the SL site and we have scored 48 tries but our highest player in "try assists" in horne with 5???



hudds have "only" scored 9 more tries than us but have 4 players with more assists - grix 8, brough 7, brown 7 and lunt 6. leeds have also scored 9 more and have 3 players totalling 27 assists. Even salford, who have scored less tries than us, have 3 players totalling 27.

I think it's either a pass from a line break or a kick in general play that directly leads to a try.

I don't think the stats are accurately updated. It's still showing Gleeson as making 2 appearances for 'Wigan' for one thing.

Ours as shown are:

5 Horne

4 Manu

3 Long

2 Fitz, Houghton, Whiting, Turner

1 Obst, Tickle, Yeaman

Total 23 assists, so by that reckoning the other 25 tries were individual brilliance, intercepts or a player picked up & scored from an opponents mistake.

Well two of the tries against Warrington didn't come from an assist!!!

I guess it's the last pass or kick? For instance Long should have got one for the Whiting try against Rovers and Westerman one for the Gleeson try.



The thing is sometimes a player might make a 70 metre break and then get tackled, from the resulting play a team scores but I guess he gets no credit?

Exactly, the first try on Good Friday for example. That will go down as a Willie Manu assist when Tom Briscoe did far more in the build up.

Thought an assist was when the final pass or kick put the player in for a walk in, Longs pass to whiting wouldn't count has he still had the winger to beat. The Williams try at wire would has wire had a 2 on 1 Atkins drew the man and gave Williams a walk in. Would also explain why shudds get so many they are really good at sucking teams in to the middle and either kick or long pass to wingers who are stood in acres of space

such phrases never existed in the game pre-Super League, hence it's down to Eddie, Stevo and colleagues that we've got language and phrases involved in our game that are actually meaningless.
